Last month we announced the completion of enrollment in the THRIVE clinical study. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the many people involved in this study, without whom this milestone would not have been possible. We look forward to continued collaboration to advance science and the development of potential new treatments for people affected by thyroid eye disease (TED). #ThryoidEyeDisease #Autoimmune #RareDisease #Opthomology #Vision #Endocrinology #Research #TED #ClinicalStudies

The "Appendix..." You actually do need it. What we know now is that the #appendix isn't just a troublesome piece of worthless #flesh. Instead, it may act as a #safe #house for #friendly #gut #bacteria and a training camp for the #immune #system. It also appears to play a role in several #medical #conditions, from ulcerative #colitis and colorectal #cancer to #Parkinson's #disease and #lupus. The roughly 300,000 Americans who undergo #appendectomy each year should be made aware of this, some experts say. But the frustrating truth is, #scientists are still trying to figure out in which cases having an appendix is #protective and in which we may be better off without it. https://lnkd.in/eKhyVFzq

https://lnkd.in/gEDjniih Article title: Celiac disease: Definition, classification, historical and epistemological profiles, anatomopathological aspects, clinical signs, differential diagnosis, treatments and prognosis. Proposed diagnostic scheme for celiac disease (DSCNC) Author(s): Giulio Perrotta; Emanuele Guerrieri Journal: Archives of Clinical Gastroenterology Journal ISSN: 2455-2283 Abstract: Celiac disease is an immune-mediated enteropathy, caused (in genetically predisposed or susceptible individuals) by the ingestion of gluten, the complex of water-insoluble proteins found in cereal grains such as wheat, rye and barley. In terms of terminology, it is the complex natural history and extremely polymorphous clinical presentation that has created some confusion. In fact, to date, at least three different forms of celiac disease are known, in addition to the simple non-celiac gluten sensitivity, since in common clinical practice most patients do not present the classic symptoms such as malabsorptive syndrome with diarrhoea, steatorrhoea, weight loss and nutritional deficiency, but rather an anaemia, asthenia, meteorism, abdominal tension, osteoporosis and infertility, thus painting an extremely varied and complex symptomatic picture that is linked to enteric microbiota and microbiome issues. #Metaplasia #HelicobacterPylori #Atrophy #StomachNeoplasms #InflammatoryBowelDisease #FunctionalGIDisorders #GastrointestinalAndLiverDisease #DigestiveOncology #GastrointestinalSurgery #PediatricGastroenterology #ColorectalCancer #PancreaticCancer #HepatocellularCarcinoma #GastrointestinalBleeding #Endoscopy #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #SurgicalGastroenterology #StomachUlcers #VirtualColonoscopy #GastricUlceration #RouxenYGastricBypass #GastricAcidSecretion #GastricMucosa #GastricUlcerHealing #GastricCardiaCancer #ReproductiveEndocrinology #EndocrineDisorders #Hepatology #AlimentaryCanal #PancreasCancer

“If #kidneys from #genetically modified #animals can be #transplanted on a #large scale, #dialysis “will become #obsolete,” said Dr. Leonardo V. Riella, #medical director for #kidney transplantation at #Mass General. The hospital’s #parent organization, Mass General #Brigham, #developed the #transplant program. #Over 800,000 Americans have #kidney failure and require #dialysis, a #procedure that #filters toxins from the #blood. Over 100,000 are #on a #waiting list to receive a #transplanted kidney from a living or dead #human donor. In addition, #tens of #millions of #Americans have #chronic kidney disease, which can #lead to #organ failure. While #dialysis keeps people #alive, the #gold-standard #treatment is an #organ transplant. #Thousands of patients #die annually while #waiting for a #kidney, however, because there is an acute #shortage of #organs. Just 25,000 #kidney transplants are #performed each #year.”
