Some important points: - A 2022 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealed 91 percent of colleges understate the price students will actually pay to attend. - Not a single school followed all the best practices identified in the GAO’s report. - Two-thirds failed to mention important financial details in their communications with students. In other words, whatever a student thought they were going to pay for college, it’s likely to be significantly more. I hope this legislation is passed.
We have repeatedly told college students that they should be smart consumers when it comes to college and pick an option that they can afford without taking on too much debt. Unfortunately, the lack of transparency and standardization in financial aid offers makes it impossible for students to make apples-to-apples comparisons of what different colleges will cost them. The problems with FAFSA this year and the delayed financial aid offers make fixing aid offers even more important. I am grateful to Senators Smith and Grassley for their continued efforts to pass the Understanding the True Cost of College Act, which would require colleges to use a standard, student-tested, and easy-to-understand financial aid offer format. #HigherEd #FAFSA #HigherEducation #HigherEdLeadership #HigherEducationLeadership https://lnkd.in/gvna85mr
