Google takes a strong stance against #crypto scammers by filing a lawsuit against a group of individuals who allegedly defrauded over 100,000 people worldwide. The scammers uploaded fraudulent investment and crypto exchange apps to Google Play, making multiple misrepresentations to Google to do so. Google's General Counsel, Halimah DeLaine Prado, hopes to set a legal precedent to protect users from similar scams in the future. “In 2023 alone we saw over a billion dollars within the U.S. of cryptocurrency fraud and scams and this [lawsuit] allows us to not only use our resources to protect users, but to also serve as sort of a precedent to future bad actors that we don’t tolerate this behavior,” she added.
