Are you at an early stage in your career as a Marketing Manager?
Here are my top 4 tips I derived from my first-hand failures and successes:
When I left school early to accept my first role as a Marketing Manager, I barely knew what the job entailed, failed a bunch, & learned a ton.
With that, I tend to get a constant stream of new marketing professionals reach out for advice.
Here's what I tell them:
👉 Score Your First Win
Get an early win under your belt. It sets the tone for your tenure and helps you build a sixth sense about what "right" feels like. If you're in the green, you'll know it; if not, you'll sense that too.
👉 Be a Facilitator, Not a Dictator
You have responsibility but not the authority to call the shots. Your role is to guide a team of incredibly talented people in the right direction. Forget being the "CEO of the campaign"; that's a fast track to derailment.
👉 Be the Catalyst
A good marketing team can survive without a manager, but with you at the helm, they should thrive. Your role isn't just supervisory; it's accelerative. Make things happen faster and more efficiently.
👉 Enjoy the Grind
About 85% of the role is hard grunt work; the rest is the fun part where you mingle with brilliant minds and work on game-changing projects. Embrace the grind, but don't forget to enjoy the perks that come with the role.
As you navigate your newly launched career in marketing, always remember: You're just getting started and the sky's the limit.
Good luck!
