According to Ziegler Data, between 2023 and 2033, there will be an increase in individuals 75 and older by 11.7 million. Why is it taboo for nurses to talk about leaving the nursing profession? Some nurses will be happy and fulfilled working at the bedside for their entire career. Some nurses will work at the bedside for 3-5 years before deciding they're ready for something new. I left the bedside after 8 years of critical care. While I was still passionate about the work I was doing everyday, I was no longer showing up for my patients and their families in the way that I set out to. I was burnt out, tired of working nightshift, and had compassion fatigue. It was time for something new. What I learned in my own career pivot is that nurses have a ton of essential soft skills that make them fantastic candidate for jobs outside of nursing. But some people really get fired up when you talk to a nurse about their opportunities outside of nursing. Why? I believe nurses should feel empowered to explore other career paths if and when they're ready for a change. Nursing administration and advanced practice are not the only opportunities for advancement. And remote nursing roles aren't the only options for remote work. There's customer success, sales, marketing....the list goes on. I founded pivotpath with the intention of empowering nurses to take control of their careers and pursue opportunities that help them to optimize their life for what matters most to them in the phase that they're in. Nurses, if you've left the bedside, what are you doing now? Let's connect! #nurses #nursingprofession #nursingcareer #taboo #careerchange

Hello friends! The IDAHO HEALTH CARE ASSOCIATION has an upcoming training, held Oct 16th – 20th, from 8:00am to 12:00pm, which consists of five half days for DNS training. This training is for SNF leaders that consist of new DNS, prospective DNS, Administrators, and top leaders on how to be a DNS. It will cover reimbursement, regulations, leadership issues and more. In so many fields you promote your top nurse to be the leader, but they probably didn’t learn what they need for this position in nursing school. So, the mid-level organizations might not have the resources or expertise or time to train their nurse as their DNS. That is why we are inviting everyone to come to the training. It’s five, half days and it’s virtual, as we know it’s tough to leave your facilities. It’s only fair to those you are promoting to give them the tools for success. Our presenter is Rebecca Evans. She is the person we recommend if you are in survey trouble and must fix something. You would hire her and her team of nurses who go through a survey and do the plan of corrections, change systems, and really help organizations get out of hot water. If you want her to do a prospective kind of quality improvement process, you can hire her as this can help to avoid problems in the future. She is the best that we know of ever since the Holloways. So, if you have someone you’re thinking of promoting to the Director of nursing position, I would certainly give them the tools of success by attending this class. Administrators can attend as well because then you’ll know what you’re asking the nurse to do, what you shouldn’t be asking them to do, what’s not fair in that position, and how to support them so that they can be successful. We hope you can join us, and we hope to see you there!
