Our group has been developing autonomous aerial systems for a few years, so I thought it might be worth applying our navigation framework to search for points to inspect in an industrial environment. In this way, we demonstrated the strengths of an autonomous navigation system and its potential impact on uncomfortable operations for human beings. ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐๐น๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐โ The system has been tested in both simulation and real world achieving positive results in both case studies. For the simulated experiments, we built a 10x20-meter structured environment where the drone was free to look for inspection spots indicated by fiducial markers. For real-world experiments, we set up a 5x5 meters industrial-like facility using cardboard boxes emulating obstacles.
