Although the dread over an oncoming #recession may be (finally) dissipating, the return of fundamental business rigor is welcome. If we have learned anything from the past 4 years, it's that sound #fiscalresponsibility must always be prioritized, even when it won't be popular, and over-reaction rarely pays dividends in the long run. Regardless of when the Federal Reserve acts on current rates, #commerce will continue, #innovation will triumph, and shareholders will continue to demand profit AND growth. "Wait and see" is an appropriate strategy, for a time, but can also become a dangerous comfort zone. Increasing, yet cautious, investment in #business execution and #transformation is returning; I suspect we'll see a slow but steady increase in hiring activity and a resumption of #digitalbusinesstransformation pursuits. But....companies beware, current and former employees have good memories. We will also see the pendulum swing back to a competitive talent market. https://lnkd.in/gWaMqBh4 Spencer Bethmann Alexey Gerasimov Dan Niles Avinash Harsh Waheed Qureshi SHRM Michael Stephan Claudia Saran Deb Garand Annie Peabody Lauren Hart Steven Swan Pierre Vogelbacher, J.D., LL.M., C.E.P.A. 📊 MARKETS: Sentiment Steady 📈 Stocks closed near unchanged after a strong week on the back of Nvidia earnings strength. 💼 Another week ends and the investor enthusiasm that has driven gains so far this year continues. 🌟 The economy is good, earnings are growing, inflation is slowing, and cash levels in money market funds are large. 💰📊 This sentiment expects the gains to continue. 🚀 Normally, when sentiment is this high, a short-term peak is usually on good news and not bad news. Post the inflation data two weeks ago, we should look for a day when good news is sold surprisingly. 📉💭 The potential catalysts are the PCE this week and the beginning of February economic data later this week. 📅 #MarketSentiment #InvestorEnthusiasm #EconomicOutlook #PCEData #LinkedInFinance

On the one hand, history shows that economic trends such as the business cycle and factors that drive corporate profitability, for instance, do impact markets. On the other hand, there are countless other patterns that investors follow that may or may not affect returns. Distinguishing between these types of patterns is important not only for portfolio outcomes but also to prevent counterproductive financial decisions.
