I'm so proud to announce that Missouri Governor Parson signed the Right to Start Act into law yesterday! This was the culmination of four long years of effort. The law creates a state Office of Entrepreneurship to strengthen the state for everyone to start and grow their entrepreneurial dreams. Thank you, Senator Travis Fitzwater and many others, for bringing this idea to reality!
We are thrilled to announce that Missouri Governor Mike Parson has signed the Right to Start Act (SB 894 & 825) into law. Set to take effect on August 28, 2024, this landmark legislation aims to significantly boost entrepreneurship within the state. 💡 Entrepreneurs create the majority of new jobs in America, and 94% of voters across party lines agree that “it is important to America’s future that citizens have a fair opportunity to start and grow their own business." In addition, research in the United States shows that for every 1% increase in the entrepreneurship rate, the poverty rate decreases by 2%. The Right to Start Act passed in the Missouri House and Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support by votes of 117-7 in the House and 31-1 in the Senate. 🔥 Key Features of the Right to Start Act: ✅ Creation of an Office of Entrepreneurship within the Department of Economic Development. ✅ Focus on supporting Missouri-based businesses with fewer than 10 employees. ✅ Annual reports and recommendations by the Commissioner of Administration to improve access and resources for young businesses, including those owned by racial minorities, women, and veterans. The first-ever Right to Start Act was introduced in Missouri by State Representative Travis Fitzwater, now a State Senator. That initial bill passed the Missouri House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support, but there was not enough time in that session for it to progress in the Senate. With State Senator Travis Fitzwater’s continued leadership on entrepreneurship policy, the Right to Start Act has now become law. The Missouri Right to Start Act is part of the growing national bipartisan momentum to enact policy recommendations advanced by Right to Start. Missouri is the second state (in addition to Nevada) to sign into law the Right to Start Act and an Office of Entrepreneurship. New Mexico, Kansas, and Michigan have also taken actions to support entrepreneurs in their states, inspired by Right to Start's policy recommendations.
