During the slower summer months, businesses often encounter a dip in activity. This period, however, presents an ideal opportunity for business leaders to refine and enhance their operations. Here are some strategic approaches businesses can adopt during the summer to optimize their downtime and prepare for busier times ahead. Firstly, it's crucial to invest time in the business. Initiating a mid-year review to evaluate company metrics, review processes, and refine strategies can be highly beneficial. Leaders should use this time to celebrate achievements and implement new systems that increase efficiency, such as automating tasks or updating software, preparing the business for increased activity in the coming months. Secondly, focusing on planning and employee upskilling during the summer lull can set a business up for success. This downtime is a perfect window for strategic planning and developing long-term goals. Businesses should also take this opportunity to enhance team capabilities through training and development, ensuring they are equipped to meet future challenges. Additionally, summer is an excellent time to refocus on employee development. The relaxed pace allows for a reassessment of employee performance and goals. Encouraging employees to take their vacations during this period can also lead to fresh perspectives and innovative ideas upon their return, boosting overall productivity. Businesses should also use this time to evaluate their current systems and processes. Identifying what works and what doesn’t allows for necessary adjustments that can improve operations. Furthermore, quieter times can be used to nurture relationships with current clients and scout for new leads, setting the stage for future growth. Implementing a comprehensive overhaul of outdated systems and processes can also be done during this period. Cleaning up databases, automating repetitive tasks, and revamping the company website are all projects that can be tackled during the summer to improve operational efficiency for the busier months ahead. Lastly, leveraging the summer months for marketing and branding efforts can be highly effective. Businesses should consider updating their marketing materials, refreshing their online presence, and planning marketing campaigns that will run throughout the year. This not only keeps the business relevant but also positions it strongly in the market when activity ramps up again. Recent military strokes on response to Houthi militia attacks on merchant ships passing through the Red Sea are bound to exacerbate supply chain hiccups. Consider these mixed stock market signals: "Bulls are crowding the stock market, increasing the risk of a pullback after the strong end-2023 rally, strategists at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said. Equity positioning and sentiment have both risen to relatively bullish levels, the bank’s proprietary indicators suggest — a level of optimism that often curbs further gains, strategists led by Cecilia Mariotti wrote on Monday. Sales and Leadership Team Development | Finance, Healthcare & Tech Firms | Doctorate in Organizational Leadership
How's your outlook for the year shaping up? Are you feeling confident and on track, or are you grappling with uncertainty and a bit of instability? As the founder of a global sales and sales training company, I've navigated various teams through both prosperous and challenging times. It's always intriguing to observe how company leaders react when faced with uncertainty. And when I say uncertainty, I'm referring to situations like: • Event registrations falling short of the break-even point • Launches not going according to plan • Slip-ups in presenting offers, leading to a missed revenue target • Taking calculated risks that didn't yield expected results or a slower return on investment • Experiencing cash flow challenges, with concerns about meeting payroll As a leader, what's your course of action? You've put in the hard work to build the right team to help scale your business, and perhaps things were running smoothly in the past, but now they've hit a roadblock. One of the most significant areas of uncertainty I've encountered in recent years was how leaders grappled with the realization that what used to work isn't effective anymore. Whether it's in day-to-day operations, a special or annual event, or a product launch, what do you do when it just isn't working? 1. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘁: I once heard a story about a leader who hid in a broom closet when facing a rough patch in her business, not wanting to confront her team. When uncertain, the temptation to retreat and check out is strong. However, adopting an ostrich approach doesn't solve problems. Facing the situation head-on and communicating openly is crucial. 2. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆: Take a moment to have a real conversation with your team. This isn't the time for emails, text messages, or even Slack messages. While you don't need to delve into all the nitty-gritty details, honesty about the company's current status and its potential impact on the team is essential. Team members often appreciate early and transparent communication and may be willing to make adjustments during uncertain times. 3. 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Sometimes, a new set of eyes can offer valuable insights. This could take various forms, such as hiring a consultant or coach, attending an event, or taking a personal retreat to gain distance from day-to-day operations and see things from a different angle. Uncertain times are inevitable for business leaders. How we respond and lead our teams through these times will determine how quickly we navigate through uncertainty and reach smoother waters. #SalesLeadership #TeamDevelopment #TeamCulture #LeadershipLessons

Transition Strategy Expert | Executive Team Coach | Scale Growth through Leadership & Business Transformation | Podcast Host #RealTalkMentalFitness | Thought Leadership #TopTeamsLegacyEvolution
Most business leaders are knee-deep in planning the team offsite right now. You've got a full agenda in mind, mouth-watering snacks, and maybe even an activity or two to build team dynamics. You'll spend 90% of the time whiteboarding and sticky-noting (that's not a word, I know...but you get my point) to come up with THE strategic plan for the year. And that's all good stuff. But most teams don't get across the finish line on key priorities. And it's not because you're not trying hard enough. Because we all know how hard we're trying to get critical things done. It's because life happens. The same noise that magically appears in your personal life and derails you from training consistently for that half marathon or sticking to your bedtime routine shows up at work and in your business. And it wreaks just as much havoc, if not more. New, unplanned emergencies pop up. Raging 'fires' that demand you down tools on everything else so the team can swarm this unanticipated must-have and turn water into wine...overnight! As a strategy execution expert with deep experience leading business transformation teams, I experienced this more times than I would like to admit. I failed despite my best efforts. Until I learned to make 1 small tweak to my strategy that made all the difference: Instead of over-indexing on HOW, ask WHO. ✨WHO do we need to BECOME to make this happen? ✨ ✔ Partner with your team to define what mindsets, behaviors, and higher-order skills the team needs to CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE as a team. ✔ Carve out time on an ongoing basis for the team to PRACTICE this new approach long after the offsite so it becomes muscle memory. ✔ Encourage your team to ask powerful questions, hold each other accountable, and provide collaborative support so you create a NO-BLAME environment that truly drives innovation. ✔ And remember that while you are the leader (and a darn good one), you might need to get out of your own way on this one. But timing matters. GET CLEAR on what 'good looks like and feels like' so your team has a collective sense for what the vision is and why it matters. And then let them get on with it. In most cases, the less you interfere with the team's performance day-to-day, the closer you'll get to truly unlocking their potential as a unit. Let me know how your offsite goes. 👉 Send me a DM if you would benefit from more proven strategies for #TeamCoaching, #TeamPerformance, #TeamDevelopment or #TeamBuilding. Happy to help in any way that I can. 🙌 #strategyexecution #highperformingteams #teamoffsite #success

Leadership and Team Design Consultant | Co-Founder @ Business Casual | Supporting leaders with the modern skills, dynamics, and practices needed for the future of the work
What's your tolerance for ambiguity? I recently wrapped up a six-month-long consulting project, and in our final meeting, a team member shared an all too familiar sentiment with me. "This felt really sticky at the start, but I got so much value from this. I cannot thank you enough." Folks often overestimate their tolerance levels, and in an effort to normalize this, I make sure to bring it up early on, letting clients know that it's normal to feel uncomfortable when we explore questions that might not have clear-cut answers. This scenario always brings to mind a quote from Sensemaking that sticks with me: "We cling to old and sometimes downright silly ideas just to avoid sitting in that uncomfortable, dissatisfied state." Sure, we can brainstorm all day about ways to revolutionize the workplace, and trust me, I'm all ears. But here's the catch: if leaders don't learn to handle ambiguity or see the nuances, we're bound to stay stuck in change limbo. I delve into the skills needed for the future of work in my report, "Embracing the Future of Work." It's clear that embracing ambiguity and mastering the art of navigating uncertainty are among the crucial skills for success in the ever-evolving work landscape. https://lnkd.in/g_CEEctf
