Join us in welcoming our Boston and San Diego Learning Lab high school interns. These students will get hands-on experience in the labs and in our offices working with Vertexians in molecular & cell biology, human resources and more. “It’s our goal to inspire the next generation of innovators and foster an inclusive biotech industry, said Jossara Dos Santos Dias, STEAM Education Senior Coordinator. “Interns will gain skills that propel their careers forward and foster a strong sense of confidence in their capabilities.” Please share! What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share with our high school interns?

In addition to the great advice already shared, I'd encourage you to embrace opportunities to get to know your colleagues outside of work and form bonds. Some of my best, longest lasting friendships began at the workplace and are holding strong decades later. These friendships have not only enriched my life on a personal level, they've also opened doors for my career and led to opportunities and professional experiences I may have missed out on otherwise. Enjoy your time at Vertex and make the most of it!

Welcome to Vertex! Internships are a great way to understand what you value in a workplace. Just as valuable in my career as learning what I really enjoyed in my internships (especially the digital parts of roles that I was assigned that ended up becoming my career!) was learning hands-on that career paths and environments that I thought I would love really were not for me. Take advantage of every opportunity to learn what makes you feel energized and excited about work, and what doesn't!

It's okay to not have a plan! Try everything and be kind to yourself while you figure out your path.

Welcome!! I'd say be curious, which goes hand in hand with asking questions. Be open to new people, experiences, and ideas...and the idea that a career in biotech isn't limited to scientific roles.

Ask questions! You will not be the first, or the last to do so. We all learn by asking. You have a great network of professionals here that are more than happy to teach!

Ask questions and get to know people! Everyone loves sharing their own story and it's the best way to learn that you don't need to have everything figured out, your path will change and evolve as you do.
