What does signal availability have to do with ionospheric scintillation? The more signals available to your system, the more resilient it becomes to scintillation effects. For example, PPP corrections are generated from a network of global reference stations, meaning there is a wide range of signals potentially outside the area where scintillation is occurring. 🟡 Did the internet go out today? yes! Did we lost cell connection, yes! Are you paying attention to 12k year cycle we entered in 2024, yet? #askingforafriend The solar region designated as AR3590 is highly active today. Initially, it emitted an X1.9 flare at 22:52 UTC on February 21. This was followed by an X1.7 flare at 6:17 UTC on February 22. 🟡 Currently, there are no observed coronal mass ejections (CMEs). We are anticipating whether this active region has more activity to display. 🌈 With the start of extraterrestrial (satellite) observations, flares began to be assigned an X-ray class rating (class) C, M, or X. The most powerful flares belong to class X, with a brightness in the range of 1-8 Å ≥10-1 erg/(cm2s). A class M flare is ten times weaker, and a class C flare is a hundred times weaker than a class X flare. #xflare #solarflare #sun

Today at 1314 UT, the sun produced one of the most powerful solar flares in years, an X3.4-class explosion. An S1-class radiation storm is underway following today's strong X3.4-class solar flare, described below. Energetic solar protons raining down on Earth's upper atmosphere are causing a polar cap absorption event, https://lnkd.in/eZmV3sZT

Here's some good info on GNSS positioning and how it can be affected by ionospheric scintillation (magnetic interference in Earth's atmosphere) The more signals tracked by your system, the more resilient it becomes to scintillation effects (caused by fluctuations in solar radiation) If you use GNSS equipment, this is good information that can have a big effect on your project planning and daily activities. #whenithastoberight Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon
