The Advanced Air Mobility (#AAM) sector experienced a deceleration due to diminished funding since 2022. However, as we transition fully into 2024, our perspective on the AAM market is shifting towards increased optimism. #airmobility #evtol #aviation #mobility
Air taxis (eVTOLs) continue to be a hot topic in aviation, but what's their real industry status? Funding is key, and several players, including Lilium and Vertical Aerospace, are down to about 6 months of cash runway, as the latest TNMT.com analysis shows. #TNMT #travel #aviation #future #AAM #mobility #airtaxis #evtol

“A mile of road only takes you a mile but a mile of runway can take you anywhere – we think they were wrong, we think you only need 300 ft” https://lnkd.in/eCNzwkKK Today we put our money where our mouth is and show that our technology really does what we said it would – that we can fly slowly under control and get in and out of short spaces. While many operators will initially fly the production aircraft from airport to airport (and it’s a great airplane for this too!) where it requires 0 infrastructure changes (zip, zilch, nada), the STOL capability enables access to new places while preserving regional ranges – ultimately saving passengers a ton of time and providing operators with huge growth potential. In a world full of fads and hype, there are people who still care about fundamentals. - Fixed wing provides more payload, more range, and lower cost than rotary wing/vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. - Electrification for the sake of electrification is not the point – it has to “earn” its way onto the aircraft by providing utility to the customer. In our case, enabling STOL to provide access to spaces previously reserved for helicopters while making it a clean and quiet neighbor. - Batteries still have decades of development to do before they can provide the range needed for real-world commercial operations under IFR. Turbine hybrid systems, like the one used by Electra, have been flying for decades as an auxiliary power unit (APU) on just about every large commercial aircraft. As I said in the video, getting to this point has taken a lot of blood, sweat, and a few tears from an incredible team who have largely dedicated their lives over the past few years to making this vision a reality. I’m especially thankful to Christopher Courtin, Chief Engineer for the Technology Demonstrator, whose Ph.D. has been dedicated to rigorous analysis of STOL, DEP, and electric aircraft technologies as well as George Bucsan who led the development of all of the aircraft’s systems (including the hybrid propulsion system) from scratch. We’re also excited to welcome Buddy Sessoms as our Product Chief Engineer. He was most recently the Chief Product Officer at Piper and has lead the development of some very successful aircraft. Finally, I’d like to thank John Langford who has been an incredible CEO, mentor, and friend throughout this journey. While we’ve shown that we can fly into small spaces, we’re not done – there’s more capability left in the airplane and we’re working some really neat control approaches that will make it even shorter while we continue the design and testing of the 9-passenger pre-production aircraft with our partners. More to come – stay tuned. Onward and upward. P.S. #CashIsKing #Capital management is first and foremost in the coming years as the industry readjusts and consolidates. Eve Air Mobility looking like they are favoured to last the distance. I suspect those who embrace #Hybrid technologies will have a swifter run to market also. Interesting times ahead.

Zero-emission aviation is already a reality! Great to experience my first time inside a certified fully-electric aircraft (the Pipistrel Velis Electro) when envAero visited the Sustainable Skies World Summit in Farnborough today. Coincidentally, this aircraft has the exact same ChadeMo charge port and an almost identical battery capacity as the Nissan Leaf I drove to the event in this morning… Much in common with Future of Flight UAS and eVTOL operations, to enable Jet Zero at scale the aviation industry still faces some huge and exciting challenges to overcome, including technological, safety and economic regulation, supporting infrastructure (ground, airspace, ATM, energy) and economic. But sitting inside this operational aircraft I’ve never been more convinced that together we will all make it happen. Now I just wish that I could fly it home! 😎 Big thanks to Stuart Anselm and Kerry Wilmot at NEBOair Ltd for the cockpit tour. #SSWS #SustainableSkies #JetZero #FutureofFlight #FutureFlight #Sustainability
