𝗕𝗮𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹, 𝗘𝘅𝘅𝗼𝗻𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗠𝗼𝗨 𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 by Mysteel Global Baoshan Iron & Steel Co (#Baosteel), the listed-arm of the world's largest steelmaker China Baowu Steel Group, and Texas-based ExxonMobil Corporation of the US, one of the world's largest integrated fuels, lubricants and chemical companies, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (#MoU) to explore new cooperation opportunities in low-carbon business, Baosteel announced on January 16 via its official Wechat account. Under the MoU, the two parties will collaborate in "exploring #lowcarbon business, including potential low-carbon #energy solutions, carbon capture and storage (#CCS) value chain, and #certification of Baosteel's low-carbon footprint #products," the release noted.   By coincidence, early last week #ExxonMobil published its 2024 Advancing Climate Solutions Report, highlighting the company's progress. New Cooperation between SK Innovation, SKIET and Lotte Chemical to push into Carbon Capture Market SK Innovation, SK IE Technology (SKIET), and Lotte Chemical have formed an alliance last year to advance together in the carbon capture market. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on enhancing carbon capture technologies, focusing on high-performance separator membrane processes, and exploring new applications. Pressure vessels used in this area usually require KGS registration in order to be approved for import and use in Korea. The goal of the cooperating companies is to leverage their strengths in carbon capture to support their commitment to a net-zero future by 2062, with investments in relevant technologies and a focus on commercializing gas separator carbon capture processes for the petrochemical industry. This collaboration aims to lead the carbon capture market and contribute to carbon neutrality. SK Innovation and SKIET have already made earlier advances with the use of their LiBS (Lithium-Ion Battery Separator) technology, next to Lotte Chemical’s progressive design of a commercial gas separator carbon capture process. The Decarbonisation of the Aluminium Industry is crucial, with a concentrated effort needed to curtail CO2 emissions across the entire Bauxite-Alumina-Aluminium production chain. https://lnkd.in/eNt-hNek In the realm of Alumina production, it’s noteworthy that the emissions associated with the Bauxite-Alumina supply chain can be significantly reduced through the implementation of cutting-edge green technologies. These include Electric Calcination, Mechanical Vapour Recompression, and Renewable Electricity. Additionally, the use of Green H2 emerges as a feasible alternative. https://lnkd.in/eGvzanRd However, these solutions necessitate an ample supply of electricity, exclusively generated from renewable sources. https://lnkd.in/eYnS6HHT. Those signaling a bottom in many chemical markets as they report 2Q earnings are making an implicit bet on China, regardless of whether they have real insight. The slowdown in China, which has caught all by surprise, is impacting China from a margin perspective, but possibly less so on volume – everyone else is feeling that. Expectations of a better 2024 suggest a huge turnaround in Chinese demand growth or massive rationalization, which history shows will not happen that fast. Pockets of strength exist where the overbuild has not happened – coatings and industrial gases, but even here further economic weakness would not help. Many are talking about better 2Q numbers especially outside the US and current price momentum but are not commenting on the rapid July rise in crude oil prices.
