(Still not ever clicking the "draft with AI" button. It can get off my lawn.) Honestly, I think hiring managers want a tech union to exist. From what I understand from my buddies in the IATSE (theatrical stage emplyees) local, if any union venue needs staff, they just go "hey, we need a carpenter with these qualifications, a sound engineer with these qualifications, [etc]..." and the union just. gives. them. the qualified people they're looking for. There's no arms race of AI writing resumes vs. AI analyzing resumes. There's no lengthy, costly, awkward-for-everyone interview cycle. There's way fewer surprises from charming (but unqualified and/or toxic) people, and (ideally) greater recourse when bad actors are discovered (and are no longer members in good standing). You don't need to question if someone really has the qualifications they're claiming. They've been trained in systematic, standardized ways, and evaluated by their peers in an ongoing basis. Obviously, this system would need to be well-designed to prevent the potential for abuse/discrimination. After all, I'm talking about introducing a single point of failure for hiring in a given region. But the system we have right now... it's a headache, and it doesn't work. It can't work. It fundamentally selects for the wrong things. The brain traits and skills that make good engineers and scientists just aren't correlated with the traits and skills to get your resume past the filters. Right now, the existential burden is on the worker to "git gud, n00b" at the game... but the fundamental flaw in this design is also felt by the hiring manager. Historically, the acumen of professional recruiters (who I love and appreciate) has been used to bridge this gap. What I'm envisioning isn't the end of recruiters, but their professional collectivization. A world where they can help *all* candidates connect with the right fit, where they can liaison with *all* companies to help them identify and fill gaps. I dunno. I'm just dreaming. It's not like I have anything better to do. Hire me, and I'll have less time for rambling blog posts.

Even with the advances in AI and tech automation, I've always said that Boolean strings will never go away. Reason being is exactly what is mentioned in this article: "While understanding the functionality of Boolean operators is certainly important, it is probably only 5% of the process of writing effective Boolean search strings. The other 95% has to do with thinking critically..." With the adoption of GenAI & LLM tools into your organization, it will better assist in thinking critically. #Recruiting #TalentAcquisition #Boolean #AI #GenAI #LLM

I find it really interesting how AI is helping with recruiting nowadays. However, it's important to remember that while it is a powerful tool, it still requires commands from human minds and critical thinking to achieve desired results. #ai #recruiting #aiinrecruiting #recruiters #boolean #booleansearch
Does generative AI, which offers the ability to write searches in natural language, finally mean the death of Boolean search for sourcing and recruiting? The answer is yes and no. But searching/sourcing has never actually been about Boolean. Read my latest LinkedIn Talent Blog article for my full take on this subject and let me know what you think.
