❓ Did you know West Hollywood is taking a significant step towards sustainability by mandating plant-based food at all city events? 🌱 According to a recent Apple News article, the city council's recent resolution makes plant-based meals the default option, citing research from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which highlights that plant-based meals can have a 63% lower carbon footprint than their animal-based counterparts. This move aims to combat global warming and promote sustainable eating habits. Notably, the requirement does not extend to privately held or co-sponsored events in West Hollywood. However, city officials emphasize the importance of this initiative in reducing emissions and encouraging more compassionate dietary choices. 💨 A study from the World Health Organization and the University of Warwick's Medical School found that shifting to a plant-based diet could reduce land used for food production by 76% and cut diet-related greenhouse gas emissions by 46%. 🌽 The city also plans to prioritize sourcing plant-based food from local businesses, fostering community support and economic growth. 🐷 Mercy For Animals, a key advocate for this resolution, praised West Hollywood's commitment to sustainability and compassionate eating. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted a similar approach, incorporating more plant-based ingredients into meals at county-run facilities. This trend towards plant-based diets underscores a growing recognition of their environmental and health benefits. 🌎 West Hollywood's new policy is a commendable stride towards a greener future and we need more cities following their lead. Good to see. Half of the battle is just making more sustainable choices easier to make. People should not have to go way out of their way to do the right thing.
