Happy Fourth of July! On this Independence Day, I feel incredibly honored to work with brave and steadfast men and women who are part of ensuring our liberty and freedom, especially our many IBM veterans. I will forever be grateful and in awe of their dedication and courage.
Honoring veterans and recognizing their value and contributions at Microsoft and beyond
Since 1996, the month of November has been commemorated by presidential proclamation as National Veterans and Military Families Month in the United States with the observance of Veterans Day on the 11th as a central moment of celebration and appreciation. I guide black veterans towards optimal mental and physical health by harnessing the power of natural, evidence-based wellness strategies and community-focused initiatives.
As we celebrate the 77th Independence Day of our great nation, I want to take a moment to revere and recognise the military veterans who have served our country with unwavering dedication and sacrifice. Your commitment to defending our freedom is truly commendable, and we owe you a debt of gratitude.
As a transitioning military officer, I understand the importance of making choices about our future careers. It is a time of both excitement and uncertainty, as we embark on a new chapter of our lives. However, let us remember that the possibilities are limitless, and we should not restrict ourselves to the traditional corporate path.
This Independence Day, I encourage my fellow veterans to explore a plenitude of professional opportunities and follow their passions. The skills and experiences gained during our military service have equipped us with a unique set of abilities that can thrive in various fields. Let us embrace this diversity and bring forth a plethora of avenues for ourselves and others.
Whether it's entrepreneurship, public service, nonprofit work, media or any other path that ignites our passion, let us not be afraid to pursue it. Our nation was built on the principles of freedom and opportunity, and we have the power to shape our own destinies,
. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

At Student Veterans of America, we get 12 months to make an impact.
That’s not an accident.
We’re a student organization designed to serve veterans. Our chapter leaders get elected, and then 12 months later, they’re ready to graduate.
We’re constantly turning over leaders who get to know our mission very quickly.
But that mission is so important. And the more people who learn about it, the better.
Many veterans have no connectivity to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, who only serve about 9 million veterans a year when there are about 18 million out there.
Student Veterans of America helps bridge that gap.
SVA sits at a unique inflection point between the military service of veterans’ and the rest of their lives, when they’re going to be community volunteers, leaders in their workplaces, and architects of social change.
The time student veterans spend with us connects them to a community of their peers to align their new mission to a shared purpose.
So, while we only serve chapter leaders for a brief moment in their overall journey, for us, that connection means success.
The issue of individual "isms" is one that many people struggle with. It is disheartening to witness individuals being downgraded or overlooked for awards that they rightfully deserve, due to factors that are unrelated to their performance and dedication. Such practices not only call into question the fairness of our awards system, but they can also significantly impact the morale of those who serve with distinction.
When people see their peers being unfairly judged or unrecognized, it can lead to a significant decrease in motivation and initiative. The willingness to go above and beyond, to take that extra step for the sake of the mission, relies on the belief that one's contributions will be justly and fairly acknowledged. If this belief is compromised, it could lead to a decrease in proactive engagement and innovation among our ranks.
It is essential that we maintain a system where honors and recognitions are awarded based on objective criteria of valor, commitment, and excellence, in accordance with standardized policies. By doing so, we not only preserve the prestige of these awards, but we also ensure that our service members feel valued and motivated to continue serving with dedication and distinction.
As having the honor of educating hundreds of senior Marines over four recent years, I can tell you that this is an issue plagued by more people than we would like to admit. We are taught to be selfless and not work for an award, so we NOT dare mention these inequalities that hurt us everytime we wear our service uniforms.
Scott H. Stalker thank you for being an amazing leader! Great post Sir!

🎥 Reflecting on Military Awards: A Transition to Civilian Rewards
In this video, I discuss a topic close to my heart: military awards and their transformation as we transition from service to civilian life. Let’s delve into this thought-provoking journey.
🎖️ The Military Awards Journey: Military honors are more than just ribbons and medals. They symbolize sacrifice, valor, and dedication. Each award represents moments of courage, resilience, and camaraderie. Whether it’s the Purple Heart, Silver Star, or a commendation, these accolades weave a tapestry of service and commitment.
🌟 The Shift Beyond Uniforms: What happens when we hang our uniforms? As we step into civilian shoes, the landscape changes. The tangible medals fade, yet their essence remains. Our new rewards take different forms:
Freedom: Beyond the barracks, we can choose our path. We’re no longer bound by orders but empowered by choices. It’s a medal we wear invisibly—a reminder that we shape our destiny.
Time: In the military, time is regimented. As civilians, we reclaim it. We savor weekends with loved ones, leisurely mornings, and the luxury of pursuing passions. Time has become our most precious currency.
Family: Our military family extends beyond bloodlines. But as civilians, we cherish our biological families—the laughter around dinner tables, the bedtime stories, and the shared milestones. Family becomes our ultimate reward.
🚀 Embracing the Transition: As we navigate this transition, let’s honor our military awards while embracing the intangible rewards of freedom, time, and family. They define our civilian journey, reminding us that life’s greatest treasures lie beyond the medals on our chests.

Honor veterans @yourlibrary--but not just the patrons!
Texas A&M University#librarian Sarah LeMire notes that the "literature about military veterans in libraries, to date, has been almost exclusively focused on patrons who are military veterans. Although serving and supporting veterans as patrons is an important topic, it is also important to remember that the veteran community within libraries includes more than just patrons. There are also military veterans who work in libraries, though there is little information on how many or in which roles."
Check out Sarah's paper "Veterans as Library Employees: Insights and Ideas
for Library Administrators" to find out more on this topic:

Today, we celebrate the 248th birthday of the United States Navy, the world's largest and most powerful maritime force. The Navy has a long and proud history of defending our nation and its interests, and it continues to play a vital role in protecting our freedom and way of life.
I am grateful for the opportunities I was afforded and the lessons I learned while serving.

🎗️ Honoring all who have served our nation with courage and dedication. 🎗️ This Veterans Day, we express our deepest gratitude to those who have selflessly defended our freedom. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🙏🏽
Remember, honoring veterans is not limited to one day a year. Continuous support and acknowledgment of their contributions can have a lasting impact on the lives of those who have served and their families.
Here are some ways in which you can honor veterans:
1. Express Your Gratitude: A simple "thank you for your service" can mean a lot to a veteran. Take a moment to express your appreciation for their sacrifice.
2. Employ Veterans: If you are in a position to hire, consider offering job opportunities to veterans. Many possess valuable skills and qualities gained through their military service.
3. Educate Others: Raise awareness about veterans' issues and challenges. Dispelling myths and fostering understanding helps create a supportive community for veterans.
4. Support Military Families: Recognize the sacrifices of military families by offering assistance, especially during deployments. Simple gestures, such as helping with household chores or providing emotional support, can make a difference.
