Did you know? July is Disability Pride Month. While this is not recognized as a national holiday, July marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) legislation that opened the door to a more inclusive society. For some, Disability Pride Month is recognizing your disability and loving who you are for it; others celebrate the wins in learning to navigate their disability; or some show their support by just listening and elevating disabled voices. Take time this month to reflect, celebrate, and continue to uplift and include those with disabilities at work and in your community. #ADA #DisabilityPrideMonth #HRConsulting #DiversityAndInclusion

How many men do you know who identify as living with a Disability? How many fathers do you know who identify as living with a Disability? This study is a great start to better understanding "the life and parenting experiences of fathers with disabilities". The study was controlled for socioeconomic and demographic factors, but I wonder how disparities in resonance with the word/label "Disability" might have impacted the results. Because populations of the global majority living in the United States have a history of trauma and abuse that deter adoption of the term "Disability", I can imagine there might be individuals who identify in the "No Disabilities" category who may in fact be undiagnosed and/or lack access to adequate, identity-aware care. Likewise, there could be individuals in the 1+/2+ categories who are under-diagnosed or misdiagnosed for a variety of reasons. The study also compared Disabled Fathers to Non-Disabled Fathers. I would love to see a comparison to the other person(s) in the second parent/guardian role. Are kids more likely to stay in the home with Disabled Fathers if they also have a Disabled co-parent/guardian? What if the Disabled father is not the first Disabled parent in his family? What if the Disabled father became Disabled after the onset of fatherhood? What questions do you have about Disabled Fathers? Thanks for the repost Keith Jones #Fatherhood #DisabledDads #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityRights #DisabilityIdentity

Consider that disability can include "hidden disabilities" . . . : Being neurodivergent means having a brain that works differently from the average or “neurotypical” person. This may be differences in social preferences, ways of learning, ways of communicating and/or ways of perceiving the environment. Because of this, a neurodivergent person has different struggles and unique strengths and persons who are neurodiverse. . . . They've included a website with a lot of great resources. https://lnkd.in/g-B_n8DZ.

During the episodic disability month, let's come together to cultivate a culture of empathy and support. By embracing small acts of kindness and understanding, we have the power to make a significant impact on the lives of those living with episodic disabilities. Creating an inclusive society starts with each of us, and by fostering empathy, we're paving the way for a more compassionate and supportive world for all. Let's make a difference together. #EpisodicDisabilityAwareness #EmpathyAndSupport #EDAM2023
