Thanks to Ned Baier, AICP, Nousheen Rahman, Kristin Combs, MPH and USF Urban and Regional Planning for organizing last night's wonderful film screening and discussion. Thanks to Dayna Lazarus, AICP for as always asking the right questions. Planners talk about equity as a matter of ethics, but we don't always focus on what equity looks like in practice; discussing policy approaches like basic income guarantee programs is a great way to enter these conversations. And what great timing, the NPR Morning Edition show today featured a story about that program and -- surprise! -- efforts of some state governments to forbid cities and counties from participating. https://lnkd.in/eXAFAbke

New NACC Member Research 🖊️ A new report by The LBJ School of Public Affairs Professor Francie Ostrower sheds light on the artistic and fiscal challenges that 25 performing arts organizations encountered while seeking to build new audiences, yielding insights into approaches that worked, and those that didn’t. Overall, the findings suggest that while expanding audiences is possible, it may not always happen on an organization’s desired terms. Therefore, if organizations want to change how audiences engage with them, they must be open to changing themselves. This research was funded by The Wallace Foundation, and can be found in full at https://lnkd.in/gPAd8xHD. #art #arteducation #audience #sustainability

📣🎨 Applications for our Council's Creative Communities Scheme are now open, so be sure to get yours in by Monday 18 March. The scheme, backed by Creative New Zealand, aims to increase participation in the arts, broaden the range and diversity of the arts available to communities and enhance and strengthen the local creative sector. Funding is awarded to projects, rather than the people undertaking the project. Successful projects will take place between Wednesday 1 May 2024 and Thursday 1 May 2025 and must meet at least one of the following funding criteria: • Access and participation – The project will create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities. • Diversity – The project will support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity. • Young people – The project will enable and encourage young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts. Visit to find out more and see what projects have been funded previously: https://lnkd.in/gz3V_gSk To stay in the loop with opportunities and updates, you can sign up to our Council's newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gXdNKJCz
