CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH- Abraham Lincoln declared all slaves in the U.S. to be free with the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, but that edict was only fully realized on June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas. The day became known as Juneteenth, a celebration of Black liberation and culture. My ancestors were slaves in the State of Texas. My family lives on and owns the land we were once held captive on. I honor them today. I am the opportunity, the equality, and the respect they hoped for. I AM MY ANCESTORS DREAMS!
