Volunteering is the best way to start my week. I've been lucky to work at multiple jobs that accommodate my weekly volunteer sessions. While I give back because I want to enrich my life and others' lives in my community, volunteering has also helped my work. Here's how: ➕ New industries: Volunteering allows you to use your skills in a sector that may be different than your "normal 9-5." ➕ Community: You get to know more people in your neighborhood by getting involved in local nonprofits. ➕ Diverse perspectives: I often work alongside people who think like me and who are working toward similar goals. Volunteering has allowed me to meet people of different backgrounds, ages, lifestyles etc. What else?! #volunteering #givingback #communityimpact

This year’s Volunteers’ Week runs from 3 to 7 June. Hundreds of activities will be taking place online and in-person nationwide to celebrate everyone who volunteers. The good that volunteers do for the organisations they support is obvious, but the benefits to the volunteers themselves are usually not talked about quite so much. In fact, there are many advantages to volunteering, beyond the very human sentiment of simply enjoying the feeling of helping out other people. In the midst of the Israel-Hamas war, volunteering emerges as an unexpected hero. Our hearts go out to those affected by the war. The idea for this post emerged from witnessing the incredible response of the Israeli community to volunteer and help those affected by the war. The voluntary act of freely giving your time, resources, skills and energy to benefit others is known as volunteering. Engaging in volunteer opportunities brings you some level of satisfaction and a sense of purpose. Other benefits of volunteering include building your social skills, making new friends, advancing your career and learning new skills. Try volunteering if you are unemployed and job hunting. It's a fulfilling altruistic act. When I wrote about public speaking, volunteering with Ask The Paediatricians foundation, where I addressed secondary school students and teachers during health talk sessions, formed part of my public speaking training.
