The first is the Intune PowerShell module; the second is the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK, which includes the device management and applications sub-modules. Microsoft doesn't maintain the Intune PowerShell module anymore and I recommend that you use the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK one, which Microsoft actively maintains to aligned with the latest release of Graph APIs. The scripts we develop using the Graph SDK are more future-proofed and it will be easier to add new features along the road. Another benefit from using the Graph SDK is that it works for non-Windows devices, which is handy for people like me who use macOS devices as their primary workstation. If you find yourself repeating the same tasks in Windows over and over again, it’s likely you can automate the job, potentially saving you time and effort over weeks and months. These tasks might encompass starting the day with a certain selection of programs and websites, for example, or renaming batches of files to match the same format. Or maybe you want to shut down your PC at the same time every day, or you need a bunch of images resized to the same standard (something I’ve been automating for a long time now). There are lots of possibilities, and you’ve got a variety of tools to pick from. They all work in slightly different ways, so I will give you a sampling below, and you can choose the one that most closely matches what you’re trying to do. Task Scheduler Task Scheduler looks like something from the 1990s, but it gets the job done. Task Scheduler is built right into Windows, and while it doesn’t have the most polished or user-friendly of interfaces, it’s good at its job — which is scheduling tasks on Windows. Anything that can be run on Windows, including apps and scripts, can be scheduled through this utility. Search for and run Task Scheduler from the Start menu, and you’ll see an introduction to the program on screen, together with tasks that are already scheduled (most likely browser auto-update routines and the like). I’d recommend creating a new folder for your own tasks: Right-click on Task Scheduler Library, then New Folder. Once you have your folder, right-click on it and select Create Basic Task…. Give your new task a name and a description. Select Next to choose the type of trigger for the task. Tasks can run on a schedule, or when your computer starts, or after certain events (like every time a Bluetooth device connects). Click Next to set the trigger details. If you’re running the task daily, for example, this is where you set the time it starts every day. Click Next, then choose Start a program, then click Next again. You then need to point Task Scheduler to the application or script to run. It could be a calendar or a to-do list app you want to see at the start of each day, for instance. Click Next and Finish to create the task. Tasks can be edited, deleted, and run manually from the Task Scheduler window — just right-click on the task to find the options. There are more options, including tools for importing and exporting tasks, in the panel on the right. That’s the process for basic tasks, but you can create “standard” tasks too — just choose Create Task rather than Create Basic Task when you click on your folder. Standard tasks add some extra features, including the option to launch a task when your computer has been idle for a set number of minutes or only when your computer isn’t on battery power. 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Limited flexibility compared to EXE files but more structured. 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙚: Best for enterprise environments requiring consistent and reliable deployment processes. 3. 𝗠𝗦𝗧 (Microsoft Transform File): Used in conjunction with MSI files to customize installations. 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Allows for customizations without altering the original MSI file, useful for tailoring installations to specific environments. 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Requires an MSI to be useful, adding complexity to the deployment process. 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙚: Ideal for scenarios requiring customized installations based on user or organizational needs. 4. 𝗠𝗦𝗣 (Microsoft Patch File): Designed for applying updates to applications installed with MSI files. 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Streamlines the process of deploying patches and updates, ensuring consistency and reliability. 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Limited to updating applications originally installed via MSI. 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙚: Best for managing and deploying patches in enterprise environments. 5. 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗫: Used for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps. 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Provides a secure, reliable, and modern packaging method, mainly suited for Windows Store apps. 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Limited to UWP applications, not suitable for traditional desktop applications. 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙚: Perfect for distributing UWP applications through the Microsoft Store. 6. 𝗠𝗦𝗜𝗫: A newer package format from Microsoft, combining features of MSI and AppX. 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙨: Simplifies application packaging and deployment, enhances security, and supports modern deployment scenarios. Teams New in Windows Server 2019. https://lnkd.in/dqGJZsme FSLogix, Inc. there is an issue with the "Teams New" and Windows Server 2019, but contrary to what is stated in this article. its working with FSLOGIX Hotfix 3. At one of my clients', I was able to get it to work on the first try without any major issues. However, at another client's place, it was impossible to get it to work more than once. I was able to reproduce the same issue describe above. EDIT : I was thinking a conflict with OneDrive and "Teams New" in "Non-Persistant Env" with Citrix but that was not the case. Actually, the problem seems to be coming from the WindowsApp folder. Procmon revealed access issues to ms-teams.exe in the WindowsApp folder. When accessing the folder, a message related to a group policy blocks access to the folder. If I take ownership and grant myself "Read/Execute" access and then launch the ms-teams.exe process directly by browsing the WindowsApp folder, it works again. I will deploy the modification to the VDA tomorrow. EDIT 2 : issue fixed by giving right "Read/Execute" to "Authenticated Users" on the windowsapp folder

Logging All operations performed by the scripts are logged for auditing and troubleshooting purposes. Logs are stored in the logs directory and include timestamps and detailed information about each operation.
