A great article written by our very own Scott Campbell about his experimentations with prototying in Figma to enable collaboration and efficiency - two of my favourite words!
Its been a busy 2024 for us at Border Crossing UX but Scott Campbell has still found the time to start developing a collaborative and responsive prototype design system in Figma. Read Scott's article to find out how he has been experimenting with Figma to enable more collaboration and huge efficiencies in our prototyping process. https://lnkd.in/eqpUDeDr

Does naming layers in Figma make or break your design handoff?🤔 Almost everyone encounters this question when navigating the intricate landscape of cross-functional collaboration. Shoutout to Simonas Maciulis for reigniting this conversation in his post: https://lnkd.in/d6cKj_wp. These thoughts inspired me to share my experience too. During Design QA, I uncovered minor discrepancies that, when compounded, could impact user experience. Because of the similar bugs recurrent, I decided to make internal research that started from the survey of developers to collect the key points of what topics I should race. And there were raced the naming layer question from the developers side. I prepared Interactive trainings for developers that involved: - Knowledge-sharing: Educating developers on Figma features, our Design System, and key element parameters (spacing, icons, etc.). - Interactive workshop: Presenting a design with named layers and tasking developers to find specific elements and identify their properties (size, colour, font, padding). The outcome was fascinating. I discovered novel approaches to enhance the handoff process and foster improved communication between designers and developers. However, the pivotal insight was clear — layer names are not the focal point. Direct your attention towards effective communication, compelling design presentations, a robust Design System, and a shared understanding of UX within the team for optimal results. It's about the broader picture! So, fellow designers, next time you ponder layer names, remember – communication is king (or queen)! Direct your attention towards effective communication, compelling design presentations, a robust Design System, and a shared understanding of UX within the team for optimal results. It's about the broader picture. P.S.: If you disagree and continue name all layers, you can try Magician tool to optimise this process https://lnkd.in/deZsQTBw #productdesign #ux #ui #designthinking #uxresearch #teamcollaboration
