On this day when we laid Michael Lovell to rest, we remember the tremendous impact he had on UWM, Marquette and the greater Milwaukee community. Mike served as a dean and then as the eighth chancellor at UWM before moving across town to Marquette. His bright spirit will continue to shine on both campuses and in our communities. Most of all, we’ll miss him as a leader, an inspiration and as a friend.
May he rest in eternal peace
I feel fortunate to have known him for so many years and had the ability to catch up with him a couple of times a year. He not only talked - he LISTENED and he cared. He always had tidbits of wisdom. Not too many folks out there that are like he was.
Indeed🙏🏻
He's Never forgotten and always remembered
What a huge loss for Marquette and our great city of Milwaukee.
Rest well.

3wAs a 2012 UWM alumnus, I had the pleasure to meet Michael Lovell at a friends’ wedding in Pittsburgh back in 2019. After striking up a conversation with a fellow Marquette graduate and Michael once he found this out he called his wife over with so much enthusiasm to introduce us “These are two of my students!” He spoke with us as if we had been friends forever. I was saddened to hear of his passing and how I wished I would have gotten a picture with him to place next to my diploma bearing his name. I’ll forever remember that conversation and will appreciate that moment in time I had to witness what a great man he was that cared deeply for the community he worked in. Rest easy, Michael.
