The loss of Tim Wakefield over the weekend really hit hard. ⚾ 😢 How do you go from not feeling well a few weeks ago, seeing a doctor, being diagnosed with brain cancer, going in for emergency surgery, and then dying? At the age of 57, with 2 kids in college, and your wife is also battling cancer?!?! Life doesn't seem fair some days. Especially to such a wonderful person, such a giving person, such a good guy as Tim Wakefield. If you didn't know Tim Wakefield - he was a Red Sox legend, master knuckleballer (a pitch no one currently uses in MLB), and a massive advocate for The Jimmy Fund. He was also the 2003 Billy Buckner (threw the game-winning HR to Aaron f*ing Boone) - but defied the odds with the team just a year later and won the first World Series in 86 years for the Red Sox and was a part of the team to do it again in 2007. Life is short and changes in mere moments. Please take a minute to reflect when reading this and ask yourself, how can I be a bit more like Tim Wakefield? Whether it's mastering your craft like the knuckleball (for me, shout out #productmarketing) .... or giving back to the communities you love through time or money. Let's all be a little more like the legend Tim Wakefield. 🧢 If so inclined, donate to the Jimmy Fund here. https://lnkd.in/eYwWq8Sz Read more about Wakefield's craft and how we mentored others here. https://lnkd.in/eSaVjPKi #givingback #legend #masteryourcraft #productmarketing

I am amazed by how many of my fellow Allspringers have joined the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer distance challenge in 2024 – we are at 434 Strong! It is a cause close to my heart, taking my dad way to early. It is designed to make a difference where 100% of participant-raised dollars through the Distance Challenge goes to cancer research as well as financial assistance for young adult cancer survivors. I can appreciate how many of us have our specific charities, and that is totally understandable. …so here’s my simple ask: Just “like” this post. That’s all. No strings attached. I have > 4k contacts on LinkedIn and if just 25% of those contacts “likes” this post, it will then go to all of their contacts also….think of the awareness campaign that we will create to fight this awful disease with the much needed research that the worlds best scientists are working on now. I am a firm believer that together we can make a difference. (…If you want to make a donation, terrific- here’s my link, but if you just “like” this post, we’ll accomplish a lot also!!) https://lnkd.in/eZzWrxpF (Here I am crushing a ride with #CodyRigsby on my #Peleton reppin’ in my Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer gear!!) CHANGING THE WAY MEN GO THROUGH CANCER Man Up to Cancer inspires men to connect and avoid isolation during their cancer journeys. As North America’s leading support community for men impacted by cancer, we offer peer-to-peer support, an annual retreat, chemo backpack program, learning opportunities, and more than 30 local chapters geared toward improving the quality of life of our members. When faced with cancer, women tend to “reach out,” and men tend to “check out.” This leads men down the path toward mental health problems, strained relationships, and poor medical outcomes. It’s time for a new path. We are changing what it means to “Man Up.” It’s not just about being tough. It means having the courage to accept help, and knowing we are smarter and stronger as a pack than we are as lone wolves. As one who was not in a good place dealing with my own cancer journey. Man Up To Cancer was part of me growing and dealing with this cursed disease. If you plan on giving, please consider #ManUpToCancer. https://lnkd.in/giJqa7Rk

Hey everyone! October was a month of solidarity and strength as we observed Physical Therapy Awareness Month and stood united in the fight against Breast Cancer. Now, let's carry that spirit into November with a focus on Men's Health!! No-Shave November is more than just growing beards – it's a stand for men's health. It's an opportunity to spark conversations, encourage early cancer detection, diagnosis, and effective treatments, reducing preventable deaths. It's about prostate cancer, male cancers, and a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Ever wondered why someone is suddenly flaunting a beard, goatee, or lamb chops? It's not just a style statement; it's a statement of solidarity. So, this November, let's grow, show, and have those conversations. And don’t forget, women can participate too by wearing blue! So, whether it's growing a beard, a mustache, or showing support in any form, let's all join in this movement. Consider supporting organizations like Movember (https://us.movember.com/) and No-Shave November (https://no-shave.org/), playing a pivotal role in education, awareness, and groundbreaking research. #NoShaveNovember #Movember #TogetherForHealth #ContinuingTheFight

In a world where challenges loom large, the power of collective resilience shines brighter than ever. The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." When you focus your efforts on a goal, you're bound to succeed. Well done, Miami Dolphins! This event has made a real impact in the fight to save lives. #Community #Resilience #Teamwork #MiamiDolphins #CancerResearch

With 2 in 5 people in Canada expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, cancer has an impact on all of us. We also know that some people and communities are disproportionately affected by cancer. To address this problem, we need focused attention from governments, health partners and charitable organizations like ours. We must remove barriers and advance equity so that everyone can access the care, support and information they need.
