U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s Post

Amazing discovery by NRL intern! ⭐ Young astronomer Amaris McCarver from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) made a huge discovery in the astronomy world! McCarver, along with her team, discovered the first millisecond pulsar ever found in a stellar cluster called Glimpse-C01. Millisecond pulsars are super-fast spinning neutron stars that act like incredible natural clocks and laboratories for studying extreme physics! This discovery was made possible by McCarver's innovative approach using data from the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) telescope. Her work highlights the power of collaboration and opens doors for finding even more pulsars in the future! 🔭 Congrats, Amaris! Keep reaching for the stars! 🌌 Check out the full story to learn more about the amazing potential of millisecond pulsars for future space navigation: https://lnkd.in/ekGp9hJ3 Read the published journal article here: https://lnkd.in/eXrqtyTi US Navy United States Department of Defense #pulsar #astronomy #NRL #science #spacenavigation #futureoftechnology #NRL #people #partnerships #resiliency #revolutionize #innovation #innovate #STEM #usnavy #lab #education #scientist #laboratory #NRLresearch #ScientificAdvancements #scientificresearch #FutureOfSpace #nasa #spacescience #NCST #spacetech #spacesystems

Great story! Inspiring!

Millisecond pulsar??? So this magnetic neutron star rotates with 60000rpm? Holy cow!
