If you haven’t read today’s remarks from the Deputy SECDEF the full transcript (linked below) is worth a read.
The bottom line: Our ability to deter and when called on, the success of our warfighter to win, depends on the #DoD innovating at the speed of relevance. From data, AI, and analytics to autonmy at scale our advantage remains the “American Ingenuity” that performs at its peak when industry, academia, and government combine. Matched with deliberate identification and removal of barriers to innovation, we stand poised to integrate game changing technologies into our workflows and operations.
The DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office and the Algorithmic Warfare directorate will play a critical role in realizing the DSD’s visions. I continue to be immensely proud of our team and incredibly humbled at having the opportunity (in any small way) to be a part of these historic times.
“…we out-match adversaries by out-thinking, out-strategizing, and out-maneuvering them. We augment manufacturing and mobilization with our real comparative advantage, which is the innovation and spirit of our people.
And so, if the operational challenge we must tackle is one of countering mass, we will do so not only through existing approaches and systems. Those remain important, but we already know how to build and use today’s technology. This is about mastering the technology of tomorrow.
To stay ahead, we’re going to create a new state of the art — just as America has before — leveraging attritable, autonomous systems in all domains — which are less expensive, put fewer people in the line of fire, and can be changed, updated, or improved with substantially shorter lead times.”
