U.S. Department of Education’s Post

When the Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence 248 years ago, they set us on a path towards the promises of life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness. Today, we celebrate & continue that work so those promises can be enjoyed by all. Happy #IndependenceDay!

  • 4th of July - Independence Day

As we pursue fulfilling these promises, we need to remember that every new generation must be taught it's significance and historical foundation. I taught these things in fifth grade. We sang patriotic songs. We role played important events of our historical heritage, my students wrote newspaper articles about our freedoms and the great cost we paid through the sacrificial services of our armed forces. We discussed and debated issues facing our new government and early settlers. We wrote essays on how we can continue to do our part in keeping America free for everyone. It is crucial, that we keep our history taught and in our curriculum.

As we celebrate the promises set forth by the Founding Fathers 248 years ago, we must also honor the brave men and women in uniform whose sacrifices have enabled us to continue this journey. Their dedication ensures that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness remain within reach for all. Thank you for your service!
