We just launched a new book-length statistical analysis of Midwestern agriculture, with novel data on BIPOC farmers, farmworkers, and environmental outcomes, among other pressing issues. The analysis includes a 114-page main report and a 53-page addendum with statistics focused on each of the states in the six-state midwestern region. The report was produced in collaboration with Nathan Rosenberg, FLPC Visiting Scholar, and Bryce Wilson Stucki, an independent researcher. It provides an in-depth, data-driven analysis of farm production, farmer race and ethnicity, and farm practices in the Midwest. Read: https://ow.ly/pKOE50Qy5HY

Congrats Krishna Jagadish SV for your achievements, it's a pleasure to be part of your team, learn from you, and see our work out there for the agricultural community. "Dr. Jagadish hasn't been at Texas Tech University long, but his impact has already been massive. A professor and Thornton Distinguished Chair in the Department of Plant and Soil Science, Jagadish uses the research farm for these test plots. His work is heavily focused on water and how its use and conservation measures relate to crop production. He uses the latest technology on different crops, measures water usage and crop yield to study the best solutions for lacking water supplies and helps figure out best practices for area farmers." The 15 Principles for our Comprehension of Life as by Ernst Götsch In our training in syntropic farming in the mediterranean last year with Ernst Götsch and Marc Leiber we got access to a profound and short paper from Ernst outlining the principles of life that he observed in nature. He says that understanding these principles helps him work not against, but with and as a part of, nature. For all those who perhaps did not have the chance to see there principles at work, here is the paper so we can all go out there, explore, experiment and perhaps even improve how it is to act from the nature within us.

Delighted to share my review paper focusing on integrated weed management strategies in minor millets. In this comprehensive analysis, I delve into the challenges posed by weeds in minor millet cultivation and explore various integrated approaches to tackle them effectively. From cultural and mechanical control methods to the integration of herbicides and biological agents, the paper offers insights into sustainable weed management practices tailored to the unique characteristics of minor millet ecosystems. By synthesizing current research findings and practical applications, this paper aims to provide valuable guidance for farmers, researchers, and policymakers striving to enhance productivity and sustainability in minor millet agriculture. Excited to contribute to the advancement of weed management knowledge in this vital area of agricultural science.

Diversifying rotations in the corn belt. New paper from Traldi et al. in a Purdue collaborative research project. I am always interested in owned vs rented and its there in Table 2 and: "Regarding land access, several farmers mentioned that their decision-making was severely constrained by high land costs since they had to keep profits and productivity up and could not afford the risk of experimentation with diversified practices, particularly on rented acres. Additionally, some participants mentioned that the land market put them in the position of deciding whether to expand their business while potentially causing conflict with neighbors." The biggest challenges to diversification are economic and market access. Lots of examination of this in this paper and suggested ways to address these challenges in the conclusion. Thanks Purdue researchers and the entire research collaboration for sharing this research.
Delighted to share this Diverse Corn Belt open-access paper (https://lnkd.in/gNBVxNBp) with you all. Led by former postdoc Rebecca Traldi, PhD, this paper presents challenges and opportunities of ag diversification based on the words of farmers in 20 focus groups. #food is #farming is #food - this is an excellent illustration of the farmers' voice. No matter your place in the agrifood supply chain, it is prudent to first understand the realities of farming before developing ways to change it. That understanding leads to opportunities for collaboration, and collaboration is the key to unlocking mutually beneficial change.
