Findings by the American Heart Association reveal an urgent need for a better understanding of women's cardiovascular health. Fortunately, the FDA's draft guidance, "Diversity Action Plans to Improve Enrollment of Participants from Underrepresented Populations in Clinical Studies," aims to enhance clinical study diversity. The findings on women’s cardiovascular health should be a call to action to enlist more women of different ethnicities, ages, economic circumstances, and life stages in clinical trials of medical devices that could benefit them. I’m excited to share highlights from our recent webinar, Understanding Acute Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: Expert Insights. We were honored to host such a distinguished panel, including Dr. Malcolm Munro, Dr. Pamela Dyne, Dr. Anita Nelson from UCLA, and Dr. Sarah O'Brien, MD from Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Their insights were invaluable in advancing our understanding of this critical issue. Key takeaways include: 1. Defining the Condition: Dr. Munro clarified the FIGO-endorsed definition, emphasizing immediate medical intervention for severe heavy bleeding. Importantly, the patient's lived experience should guide the clinician in treating this issue urgently. 2. Real-life Impact: Patient stories underscored the severe effects of acute abnormal uterine bleeding, highlighting the need for increased awareness and better management. More so, this is a problem that affects women across their life span, from adolescence through menopause. The causes, and risks, can be different at different stages. 3. Diagnostic and Treatment Insights: Our experts discussed the importance of distinguishing between acute and chronic cases and the need for tailored patient care. 4. Continued Research and Awareness: There is a strong call for ongoing research (existing research is limited and often relies on small study sizes), the importance of developing new treatments and heightened awareness among healthcare providers and the public. Thank you to all our panelists and attendees for contributing to this vital conversation. We know one conversation alone won't solve this issue. We plan to publish a white paper on this topic and host more panels to gain diverse perspectives, particularly from patients and advocates. Together, we can address these serious unmet needs in uterine health. #WomensHealth #UterineHealth #MedicalWebinar #HealthcareInnovation #AbnormalUterineBleeding

"The Missing Piece campaign came together as more medical experts found patient results were regularly stymied by a lack of access to medical pathology technology, which allows precise diagnosis, treatment and prevention across several conditions." James Dowling, The Australian. “The health system isn’t designed for chronic diseases like diabetes. We are moving and things are improving with this, but the whole system was based around acute care right from the beginning.” Ray Kelly, Too Deadly for Diabetes. “All the reviews that are going on at the moment come to the same conclusion, that we need to invest earlier in the patient journey. We need to prevent the issues that are occurring before they occur, and we need to manage these people better.” A/Prof Colman Taylor, Chief Vision Officer, HTAnalysts Read the full article in The Australian: https://lnkd.in/gmwsTuKc Visit the campaign website: https://lnkd.in/gZmUdSVz Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/ggy3Sz-M and join us in raising the volume of this important campaign. "Doctors rarely advise patients to fall down a rabbit hole online. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do research. The best patient is the informed patient, according to Dr. Benita Petri-Pickstone. She says a vital aspect of self-advocacy is for patients to take an active role in their health, which means doing their research ahead of time so they can ask informed questions. Be proactive, raise any concerns with your doctor, and don’t hesitate to ask a multitude of questions, she says. 'The patient who tends to get the better care is usually one that is more vocal and asks informed questions about things based on what they’ve read and based on symptoms that they are feeling,' Petri-Pickstone says." #patientadvocacy #selfadvocate #cancerpatient #patienteducation #cancerdiagnosis https://lnkd.in/ePc3QMr4

Live from EULAR - European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology 2024 in Vienna! 😊 🎉 🎉 Marius S. presented one of his posters, which explored the experiences of patients and healthcare providers with patient-initiated follow-up and telemedicine in spondyloarthritis. The main conclusion is that this new approach to follow-up was perceived as acceptable and safe for patients with stable spondyloarthritis who possess adequate digital and health literacy, making it a promising alternative to usual care. We are all very proud of you, Marius! 👍👍👍 #EULAR #Rheumatology #MaastrichtUMC+ #MUMC #Reumatologie
