No. 31 Barbora Krejčíková of the Czech Republic survived a fierce comeback from No. 7 Jasmine Paolini of Italy on Saturday to become the 2024 #Wimbledon women’s singles champion in a three-set thriller. Krejčíková outlasted Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to keep her country’s Wimbledon winning streak alive after compatriot Markéta Vondroušová shocked the tennis world by becoming the first unseeded woman to win the Wimbledon singles title last year. June 7th is going to mark the dawn of a new era in tennis. With Nadal and Djokovic out, the Roland Garros will see a new champion this year. While it remains to be seen who lifts the coveted trophy, the match between Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz promises to be an exciting one, ushering in a new era on the court. The two are likely to replace the Big Three as the next greats of the game, considering how exciting the past contests between the two have been. Since their unforgettable five-hour clash at the US Open two years back, the two have grown from strength to strength, and their clash now has all the makings of a blockbuster match. Both have entered the tournament recovering from injuries but have had a spectacular year on the court. Sinner is undefeated in Grand Slams this season and was at his best in the Australian Open. He comprehensively beat Djokovic in the semi-finals and showed remarkable resilience in the final against Daniil Medvedev to win the final. Alcaraz has also emerged as a worthy successor to Nadal. In just sixty Grand Slam encounters, he has earned fifty victories, with one of his best wins being in the Wimbledon. Displaying immense skill, he recorded a five-set win over Djokovic in the final, establishing himself as a player to watch out for. The two players bring out the best in each other, with their head-to-head currently tied at 4-4. It is tough to ascertain who will emerge as the victor. While Alcaraz prevailed in their last encounter at the Indian Wells, Sinner was the winner when the two last played on clay in Umag. With the era of the Big Three nearing its end, the Sinner - Alcaraz rivalry is great for the sport, and the match will shape their future as potential legends of the game. A new time regulation rule for Tennis... "Tennis might see a potential change in the time regulation rule to enhance the pace of the game and kill the "dead time'. A new 15-second shot clock will be put to trial at the Madrid Masters ATP doubles event later this month." "This 15-second shot clock has been used at ATP events before, specifically at the Next Gen Finals in Saudi Arabia last year. The tournament has become the testing ground for new innovations, which in recent editions have most often been geared towards the speeding up of the game." "The length of men’s singles matches has increased by more than 25 per cent over the last two decades which sometimes hamper the scheduling of the event especially for the broadcasters." Thirty30 tennis enhances the pace of the game and kills the "dead time". #tennis #thirty30tennis #speeduptennis #shorterscoringformat https://lnkd.in/eVSdH6h9

🎾🧠 Unraveling the Mind of a Tennis Genius: What We Can Learn from Rafael Nadal's Italian Open Comeback 🌟 Amid Rafael Nadal's awe-inspiring performance at the Italian Open, one moment stood out—his incredible recovery after a fall that left even seasoned players like Andy Murray in admiration. As the score hung in the balance at 15-15 during a crucial game, Nadal found himself on the brink of losing the point after an unexpected slip. Yet, what ensued was nothing short of a masterclass in quick thinking and strategic prowess. Despite tumbling to the ground, Nadal's lightning-fast reflexes allowed him to not only regain his footing but also execute a pinpoint slice forehand return, extending the rally and keeping his opponent on the back foot. But what truly separates champions from contenders lies in their ability to anticipate and adapt in the blink of an eye. As Murray aptly pointed out, Nadal's swift recovery wasn't just about physical agility—it was a testament to his exceptional mental acuity. In that fleeting moment, Nadal's decision to wipe his hand on his thigh wasn't merely a reflex—it was a calculated move, a prelude to the strategic manoeuvres that would follow. It's a reminder that in the heat of competition, every gesture, and every action is imbued with purpose and foresight. Indeed, the true essence of athleticism lies not just in raw talent, but in the capacity to outthink, outmaneuver, and ultimately, triumph against all odds. And in that regard, Rafael Nadal's remarkable display at the Italian Open serves as a timeless lesson for athletes and enthusiasts alike. So here's to the indomitable spirit of champions, to the brilliance of the human mind, and the enduring legacy of a tennis icon. Let us all take a moment to appreciate the genius of Rafael Nadal, for in his feats, we find inspiration to reach greater heights, both on and off the court. #Tennis #RafaelNadal #ItalianOpen #ChampionMindset 🎾🧠

When #CarlosAlcaraz and #AlexanderZverev faced off at #StadeRolandGarros on Sunday, it was the first #FrenchOpen final since 2004 without the involvement of either of the “#BigThree”. During those 19 years, #RafaelNadal, #NovakDjokovic and #RogerFederer lifted the #CoupedesMousquetaires a combined 18 times, with Rafael Nadal winning an astonishing 14 titles to #Djokovic’s three and #Federer’s one French Open title. #StanWawrinka was the only player to break the triumvirate’s dominance during those years, beating Novak Djokovic in the 2014 final. With Federer long retired, #Nadal losing in the first round to eventual finalist #Zverev and Djokovic forced to pull out ahead of his quarterfinal with knee injury, this year’s tournament at #RolandGarros was another sign that the era of the “Big Three” is slowly but inevitably coming to an end. While Nadal couldn’t bring himself to confirm that his first-round loss marked the end of his reign over #Paris’ famous #redclay, he did admit that it was likely his last match at the French Open. And while Novak Djokovic will surely come back from his injury and looks adamant to add more trophies to his record-breaking haul, even he won’t be able to play his physically and emotionally challenging game forever. As this chart illustrates, the "Big Three" have won 66 of the past 83 #GrandSlam tournaments, dating back all the way to 2003. There has never been an era in #tennis during which three players have dominated the sport in the way that Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have over the past two decades. And while the "Big Three" no longer exist, its memory will live on in tennis history. https://lnkd.in/gB-zktq3

End of an Era: Is Djokovic's Reign Over as Next-Gen Stars Rise? Novak Djokovic, a tennis titan with 417 weeks as World number 1, 24 Grand Slams, 40 Masters titles, and over 1,000 wins, has defined over a decade of unmatched excellence alongside rivals like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. But even legends have their end, and at 38, Djokovic's unparalleled run may be witnessing a new dawn. Meet the rising stars: Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Italy's Jannik Sinner, ranked 2nd and 3rd in the world, are quickly becoming one of the greatest tennis rivalries, having battled for the eighth time at last week's Indian Wells semifinal. As a passionate tennis addict from Italy, I am a proud Sinner fan. With his striking red hair and determination, he's won Italy's fourth Men's Grand Slam since 1976, triumphing at the 2024 Australian Open. Sinner isn't just playing tennis; he's taking the game to new heights. My friend Federico Tiberga and I applied the Glicko Rating System to quantify players' scores, tracking performance across different surfaces. Invented by Mark Glickman, this system offers a dynamic measure of a player's calibre and is a favourite among chess enthusiasts for its accuracy. The accompanying graph shows an intriguing narrative. On hard courts, Djokovic's numbers (Green line) are formidable, yet Sinner's ascent (Blue line) is unmissable. With 29 victories in his last 31 hard-court appearances, his surge is a testament to his escalating greatness, while Djokovic hasn't celebrated a tournament win since last October. With the rankings tightly contested, will we see a change at the summit of the Glicko Scores, a feat that has not been seen since January 2020? Will Sinner or Alcaraz have similar dominance in the future? Will another Next-Gen player take the scene? Unfortunately, I can only show the past, but one thing is sure: we are left in excellent hands, and I can't wait to see what is coming. #EnjoyTennis #DataScience #SportsAnalytics #CarotaBoys
