Iberian O&G firms Repsol and Galp embrace strategic divestment to bolster renewable energy investments Repsol has successfully completed the sale of a 49% stake in their renewable portfolio, which includes 398 MW of wind projects and 220 MW of solar projects, to Pontegadea for €363mn. This strategic move, valuing the deal at €1.2mn/MW, will allow Repsol to reinvest in new endeavors, similar to their recent entry into the US renewable market through the acquisition of ConnectGen. In a similar vein, Portuguese firm Galp is planning to sell a 49% stake in its 1.6 GW solar PV portfolio in Spain for ~€780mn. If completed, the deal will be valued at €0.93mn/MW, which is in line with the median of deal metrics reported for operational solar assets transacted in the country during the last two years. 📍 Transaction news: Marguerite has become the majority shareholder in SotySolar, a distributed solar PV and behind-the-meter services provider in Iberia. SotySolar is one of Iberia’s leading players in the distributed renewables market in Spain and Portugal, with a track record of over 7,000 residential B2C installations. Headquartered in 🇪🇸 Gijón (Asturias) and founded in 2016, the company has historically focused on the Spanish residential segment, providing turnkey solutions for self-consumption solar PV, batteries and EV chargers, and recently expanded into 🇵🇹 Portugal. The transaction consists of acquiring part of shares from Plenium Partners - who will remain a minority investor - and the subscription of a new share capital increase. Founding partners Dani Fernández and Edgar Imaz Mauriz remain in the company and as shareholders. “We are enthusiastic about the market growth potential for solar PV self-consumption in the Iberian Peninsula and the role that SotySolar can play in helping end customers produce their own electricity through solar PV and reduce their electricity bills, thanks to reducing dependency on the grid. We strongly believe that SotySolar is well positioned as a platform to tap into this growth potential and boost demand for renewable distributed energy generation,” said Pilar Gomez, Partner at Marguerite. The Asia-Pacific region is a leading destination for renewable energy investment worldwide. This is great news for investors. Here's what's happening: #Renewableenergy in 2030 is expected to make up 30% to 50% of the power generation mix in most APAC countries, with renewables playing a dominant role in mainland China, Laos, and Vietnam. #Solar and #wind power offer some of the biggest and best investment opportunities in APAC, with Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia among the markets with highest expected growth. When looking at baseload renewables, opportunities exist for #hydropower projects in Laos and Malaysia and #geothermal ones in Indonesia and the Philippines. Factors that make attractive investments vary from market to market. Investors and developers will need to select the right mix of locations and technologies to avoid being spread too thin. We have summarized our findings into five key success factors to focus on in our latest industry report. https://lnkd.in/gyerfS9x Marko Lackovic, Christian Romig and Suncica Zdunic

Albéniz is part of a cluster of three separate solar PV parks which are all fully operational. The portfolio is located in the south of Spain, benefiting from high irradiation and yields and advanced solar PV technology. The project was completed and became operational in June 2022, and has been producing revenue since then, with final commissioning taking place in August 2022. The asset is expected to have an operating life of 40 years after commissioning. Albeniz benefits from PPAs covering 80% of P50 production with Statkraft over a term of approximately five years. Aquila European Renewables (AER) offers an investment opportunity into the European energy transition characterised by a focus on diversification. By combining different technologies and geographies, risks can be minimised since seasonality profiles of production and reliance on any single power market are actively being hedged. Against this background, the fund targets e.g. solar pv assets in the south of Europe and wind assets in the north.
