What is known today as NeuroRestorative originally began in 1977 in Carbondale, IL, as the first-ever after-hospital specialized community-based residential brain injury rehabilitation program. Now providing quality programs supporting adults, children, and Veterans across 28 states, NeuroRestorative has grown to serve the unique needs of each person recovering from brain injury or Neurotrauma. Our quality outcomes have led to our programs’ growth in an ever-increasing number of locations, each providing an environment of care that maximizes opportunities for abilities and skill development, adjustment to disability, and community participation. Families, funders, and all stakeholders care deeply about the features and benefits that NeuroRestorative programs provide. Still, it is the measurable difference we make in people’s recovery – the gains they achieve from the time of admission to the time of discharge, that cement the value of our programs. https://lnkd.in/er8C_qr9

Christina Nicolaidis, MD, MPH co-authored the recent publication "Measurement Matters: A commentary on the state of the science on patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in autism research". High quality science relies upon psychometrically valid and reliable measurement, yet very few Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been developed or thoroughly validated for use with autistic individuals. The present commentary summarizes the current state of autism PROM science, based on discussion at the Special Interest Group (SIG) at the 2022 International Society for Autism Research (INSAR) Annual Meeting and collective expertise of the authors. I help leaders create safer and more effective work environments. Psychological safety is fundamental.
Really looking forward to delivering the keynote at CASP this year! Behavior change is hard. Even for behavior analysts, who have lots of education and skills in behavior change techniques. I plan to share some evidence-based strategies for reliably producing measurable improvements...backed up by many years of behavioral scientific research. What the studies don't explain very well is HOW leaders can achieve these results by improving #relationships and #psychologicalsafety on their teams. behavioral #leadership

It is World Duchenne Awareness Day today, a global day aiming to raise awareness for those affected by Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy. The theme for this year's awareness day is 'breaking barriers'. This is a campaign that is close to our hearts, as one of the first pieces of bathroom equipment we designed and built - the ABW height adjustable washbasin - was developed with Muscular Dystrophy UK in the 1990s to address the specific needs of people living with degenerative and changing muscular conditions such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Many of the washbasin's features - such as weight bearing basin surround, levered taps and handset controls - were incorporated to support changing needs and enable as much independent washing as possible, for as long as possible. This design has been further developed over the years, and was also used as the basis for our ABW-CP Washbasin, which is used in Changing Places Toilets across the UK. We are proud to support those with Muscular Dystrophy, and this campaign. #WorldDuchenneAwarenessDay #DuchenneAwarenessDay #BreakingBarriers #ChangingPlaces #ChangingPlacesToilets Duchenne UK
It’s World Duchenne Awareness Day! This year’s theme is breaking down barriers in DMD. There are several ways that barriers are starting to be broken down for DMD, from accessing care to education. But barriers still need to be broken down there further, and there are some places where the barriers are still very much up. That's just not good enough and needs to change. Help us highlight this key issue for the DMD community today. Share your experience, the good and the bad, of either how you have faced or broken down DMD barriers this World Duchenne Awareness Day - with the hashtags #DMDBreakingBarriers #WDAD2023. Thank you, and together our community will break down these barriers!

📌 Have a look at this important new research: Public views of sexual assault, and its prevention, in residential aged care facilities 🌟 This research was conducted by SVRPU members, Madeline Lee and Dr Emily Moir, and SVRPU co-leader, Nadine McKillop. It explores the issue of sexual assaults against older people in Residential Aged Care Facilities by examining public knowledge of the causes, delegations of responsibility, and possible solutions to limit reoccurrences. 👏 Efforts to better understand, respond and prevent this critical issue have continued during Madeline’s PhD studies with the SVRPU. Safeguarding vulnerable people in institutional settings across the lifespan is also explored by SVRPU member, Jessica Lockitch, in her HDR candidature. #SVRPU #UnderstandPreventRespond This publication is Open Access and can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/g472AbWc. Here is a quick snapshot of key research findings:

Our Principal Investigator, Dr. Karen Smith, collaborated with colleagues, NORC at the University of Chicago, and Child and Parent Services (CAPS) in Indiana in a recently published study! The paper outlines two studies in which researchers examined how loneliness, perceptions of control, and childhood trauma contribute to parents' perceptions of stress. Congratulations to Brystana Kaufman (she/her) and Marian Grant, DNP, ACNP-BC, ACHPN, FPCN, FAAN for their thoughtful publication on opportunities for value based models in serious illness care. I had the great pleasure of working with Brystana during her Health and Aging Policy Fellowship where she helped better define serious illness care across the continuum and identify potential opportunities for future integration of serious illness care in CMMI models. https://lnkd.in/egnxXPeP
