Another #TidyTuesday: This week we have a tricky dataset. Participation in this Campus Pride🌈 Index is entirely voluntary, according to their website, and the actual rating happens entirely based on self-reported information. A mediocre rating thus still signals at least an interest in equality and a willingness to provide a honest assessment of what they offer. Any really hostile institution is unlikely to actually provide any data. Thus I am not looking at the actual ratings and instead merely depict whether information was provided in the first place. Interesting article exploring how young people make sense of their rural identity. Implications for rural policies: 1. Rural young adults can have parallel future horizons - importance of flexible futures and opportunities 2. Maintaining a rural location for mobile young adults - supporting functional rural identities 3. Promoting regional rural identities to raise awareness of the benefits that access to both rural and urban areas can bring 🌱How can insights like these support recruitment and retention of young people in healthcare careers in rural areas? 🌱How do we privide flexibility of future horizons and access to rural and urban benefits? #ruralhealth #ruralhealthcareers #ruralcommunitites #ruralEurope #stayingrural
How do rural young adults negotiate their rural identity in different future horizons? This paper presents insight into how rural young adults in the rural areas of Oost-Groningen, The Netherlands, and Südharz, Germany, deal with their rural identity with regard to different future horizons. Based on 15 biographical interviews and a survey to geographically contextualize these interviews, the results show how rural young adults can have parallel future horizons to maintain several options open in which they all aim to preserve a rural identity.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei! How this became a term for video interviews The Latin phrase Vox Populi, Vox Dei translates as ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God’. Although the original content, dated to 798 CE, warned of the dangers of listening to the crowd, the term has subsequently been used by politicians to argue in favour of liberty and democracy. In the film-making world, the term Vox Pop has become associated with impromptu interviews with randomly selected members of the pubic. These are often filmed in a street setting, where their responses to a specific question are recorded, with the output normally being footage made up of short clips from several people to reflect public opinion. In the B2B setting Vox Pop videos are often carried out at trade exhibitions, workshops or seminars, or conducted to support a trade body or industry initiative – for example, to promote greater take-up of apprenticeships. Vox Pop has also been used by the wider media industry over many years, with several programmes taking the title. The earliest example was a radio show in America, which ran during the nineteen thirties and forties. Since then, Vox Pops have become a staple of news shows around the world. There are some excellent examples in the BBC archive, with this set of interviews with children from 1966 being prescient, predicting the risk of atomic warfare, the growth of automation putting people of our work and waking up to take your cabbage pill! I wonder where these children are now? https://lnkd.in/eDU3AzRK

Want to better understand the return on investment in higher education? Join our webinar to learn more about the Value Data Collaborative (VDC). The VDC uses puts the Postsecondary Value Framework into action, which provides an empirical basis for understanding the return on investment in #HigherEd, particularly by race, ethnicity, income, and gender. In this webinar, you will learn from state administrators who have implemented the framework in their policymaking processes, gain insights into the challenges they’ve overcome, hear from speakers at Coleridge Initiative and IHEP, and discover how the framework can inform more equitable and effective higher education policies. https://lnkd.in/eRJzne2B #postsecvalue #postsecdata #edpolicy #data
