Greetings, LinkedIn community! 🌐 I've been exploring the economic landscapes of two cities that hold a special place in my heart - Rochester, NY (my hometown), and Flint, MI. Both cities, with their distinct economic indicators and sectors, offer valuable insights into urban economic development. 🏙️ As someone with a background in real estate, business development, and economic development, I'm particularly interested in how both of our cities are handling their unique challenges. In Flint, I am interested in the strategies they adopt, the partnerships they form, and the investments they attract. This information can serve as valuable lessons for other urban areas facing similar issues. 💡 I'm currently meeting with Economic Development professionals in Flint, eager to learn more about their initiatives and share insights from Rochester. Collaboration is key in our quest to create neighborhood wealth, close the wealth gap, and foster job creation. 🤝 Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences on urban economic development. How can we enhance collaboration and partnerships to drive growth and equity? Let's start a conversation! 💬 #EconomicDevelopment #UrbanGrowth #Collaboration #neighborhoodwealthbuilding #economicjustice

My career has taken me far and wide, and gained me access in spaces I wouldn't otherwise have had. But, never have I felt the level of helplessness I am experiencing now. Last week I posted about #ResilientCities as part of #SustainabilityGoals. Soon after I conducted condition assessments in city-center buildings. One day we must have a real conversation about disparity in decent #Infrastructure provision or even access to #LiveableConditions. As it is, I have been going through an emotional rollercoaster the whole week as I compile my #findings as a #StructuralEngineer. I both feel numb, helpless and angry. Surely people should not be left to live like this? I believe this is a step in the right direction, but 30 years post #Democracy, conversations about #SafeHousing solutions for the marginalized must not end at the boardroom or in reports, but materialize into actual actionable steps. EXPEDITED! Politics aside, It is our #social #responsibility to not allow human beings to live in such conditions.

What's on your wish list for 2024? Through a shared commitment, collaboration, and clear goals, anything is possible. Not too long ago, a committed group that included Stephanie Hsieh shaped a "wish list" for the City of #Pasadena - changes that would go a long way to drive industry and job growth in the emerging life sciences hub. Check out this article that outlines how the City is making moves and continuing to build momentum as a result of that effort... and THAT is how you build an ecosystem. Link in comments.

The Dallas-Fort Worth (D-FW) metro area led the nation in population growth in 2023, adding over 152,000 new residents, primarily due to business relocations and expansions that attract new job opportunities. The resulting population growth, equivalent to adding a city the size of Mesquite, pushed D-FW's total population to 8.1 million at the start of 2024, with Dallas County growing due to international migration and natural increases. The region's growth is closely linked to its strong business climate, attracting companies like Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo, with suburban counties like Collin and Denton seeing significant gains due to new residents seeking job opportunities. Is Multifamily one big clique? 🤔 Remember back to when you were in school and you sat in the same seat at lunch every day with the same people because it was routine. Or how about when you attend a work event and you sit at a table with your colleagues or people you know versus sitting at a table where you don’t know anyone yet. It’s inclusive until it’s not. For those on the outside of the inner circle, this can be hard to experience and demotivating. Hear me out. I tend to see the same people speaking together, tagging each other on social media, and working on projects together. I want to challenge our Multifamily leaders to dig deep and connect with someone new. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have friends and partners in business, but it’s also limiting. Let’s get comfortable being uncomfortable. Let’s invite new people to sit with us. And let’s listen more than we talk. Can we all agree to reach out to someone new this week (virtual or in person) to introduce ourselves and connect. It’s great to have people in Multifamily that we look up to, but the real MVP’s are those head down onsite or in projects that have amazing information to share but aren’t necessarily in the spotlight. Let’s elevate those unheard voices and make meaningful connections. There’s always more room at my table. Added points if the person you reach out to is a woman or minority. We need so much more of that! #TuesdayThoughts #unpopularopinion #people #networking #connections #multifamily #propertymanagement #change #opportunity #inclusion

Seven years ago today, I left a vibrant and collaborative ecosystem (Charleston, SC) for a small coastal town (Wilmington, NC) I'd visited only for a wedding a few years prior. Little did I know.... What might have been a sleepy town upon arrival has gained momentum as a uniquely positioned place, both in geography and business growth potential. Fun facts, Wilmington's recent headlines include: -Number 1 city in North America for start-ups with populations between 100,000 - 300,000 people -Number 1 city for inbound moves in 2022 -Number 3 for remote work Suffice to say, Wilmington is drawing tremendous talent, building impactful businesses, and maintaining the magic of a quaint coastal town. While the headlines are mostly positive, we as residents still have a heavy load to carry in support of our entire community. With all the good comes an even stronger sense of responsibility to steward our resources in support of the rising tide. As our own family deepens its roots in Wilmington, I am personally dedicated to the following initiatives: -Improving connection to outside capital for overlooked founders -Contributing to the collaborative efforts around affordable housing -Increasing early childhood intervention efforts -Eliminating area food deserts -Closing the gap in access to quality healthcare If you are interested in learning more about the incredible work area leaders are doing to address the above, please reach out. This town is brimming with rad..... #HomeSweetWilmington #startupecosystem #equitybuilding
