Programme Manager UNOPS

Al-shihr is a coastal city of #Yemen located around 600Kms from Aden in Hadramout governorate. It faces significant water supply challenges due to its dilapidated and deteriorating network, mostly built of asbestos material posing very critical and horrifying health hazards, directly affecting the health of its population of around 200,000 people. To address this, UNOPS funded by the The World Bank has substantially completed an integrated intervention under its #YIUSEP programme, aiming to provide safe and reliable water supply services in order to contribute to better public health. Key components of this intervention include: - Replacing 17.7 kilometers of the main pumping line and its distribution network. - Installing a 540 kW solar power unit to provide and enhance energy efficiency. - Providing a backup diesel generator for better reliability. -Delivering essential maintenance equipment. Overall, this initiative is addressing immediate water supply challenges, improving public health and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
