Before the war, Fedaa Aby Elian owned a factory and ran a successful business. Today, he and his family are taking shelter in a makeshift tent in Tal Sultan, in Rafah city. The war has brought unimaginable devastation. He has lost his factory as well as many friends and colleagues. Fedaa is not alone. More than 75% of the population of Gaza is displaced. Finding food and water is a daily challenge, and experts say famine is imminent. Oxfam staff and partners are on the ground in Gaza, distributing aid and saving lives. Half a year into the hostilities, the people of Gaza continue to face hunger, trauma, and unsafe living conditions. Since 7 October, the United Nations OCHA managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and the Occupied Palestinian Territory Humanitarian Fund (oPt HF) have together allocated over $60 million to respond to urgent needs in Gaza, with additional allocations planned soon. 📣 *And the answer is… Ethiopia* Ethiopia has been facing multiple emergencies amid critical levels of underfunding. *Here are 5 things you should know.* 1️⃣The conflict in Sudan has displaced *nearly 8M people*, over 100,000 people have fled to Ethiopia. 2️⃣Most of the newly arrived Sudanese refugees are *women and children*, dealing with trauma and facing harsh conditions. 3️⃣Ethiopia’s Somali region has also experienced a *continued influx* of refugees from Laascaanood, Somalia. 4️⃣Ethiopia shelters nearly *1M refugees and 3.5M internally displaced people*. 5️⃣Ethiopia is *one of the most underfunded* UNHCR operations globally. 💔 The world’s current state is heart-wrenching. Afghan refugee families, especially in the Hazara community, are being ripped apart right now in Pakistan. So many people need to rebuild. We need donations to help them cover emergency expenses & legal fees. Refugees & asylum seekers should NEVER be forcibly returned to a country where they will be subjected to persecution. As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, Global Communities is collaborating with the Bank of Palestine to distribute winter clothing vouchers. The Bank of Palestine has committed to funding this program, aiming to reach 1,000 families with much-needed support during the cold season. 3.6 million people in northwestern #Syria are food insecure. The humanitarian response to Syria remains alarmingly underfunded. Only 6 per cent of the required funding for 2024 has been received, which means humanitarian organizations can only reach 625,000 out of 3.6 million people to prevent them from falling into starvation. With support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and European Union, over the past year we provided cash assistance to more than 1,200 vulnerable families in 10 locations to help them feed their families and rebuild their lives after conflict and earthquakes. ❗Urgent: Global conflicts have left thousands of innocent children homeless in Gaza. 80% of homes are damaged or destroyed, displacing 1.7 million people, half of which are children. ❗ 🏠 Our response team is in Egypt, collaborating with local organizations to expedite aid delivery to Gaza. Although getting aid into Gaza is unpredictable and delays are common, trucks filled with our aid are expected to cross the border over the coming days. We have contingency plans in place with our partners to make sure that our aid still reaches people who need it should there be a ground offensive in Rafah. In addition, we are working with partners in Jordan, including Rotary, to scale our response, and we have more aid on the move. We are using two separate aid routes into Gaza to get tents to people without shelter in the coming weeks. 🌟Your generosity allows us to expand our response to reach as many families as possible with emergency shelter.
