Wild animals belong in their natural habitats. On #WorldZoonosesDay, we highlight the link between biodiversity loss, human health, and wildlife crime. Our poor relationship with nature is causing diseases to spread from animals to humans. As illegal wildlife trade bypasses health controls, it risks new deadly pandemics. Wildlife trafficking is a global crisis that requires urgent action. According to the UNODC's World Wildlife Crime Report, from 2015-2021, illegal trade impacted 4,000 species in 162 countries, many endangered. While progress has been made in protecting elephants and rhinos, the issue remains vast and often overlooked. Stricter regulations and targeted enforcement are essential to safeguard our biodiversity and combat climate change. Let's stand together to protect our planet's precious wildlife! 🐘🦏🌍 #WildlifeCrime #ProtectOurPlanet #ClimateAction

Saturday is International Tiger Day! Over the last century, the global tiger population has declined drastically due to habitat loss & wildlife trafficking. Today, there are more tigers in captivity than in the wild. The Pygmy Hippo gets a poem at this tag #bigpygmypoem or at my Profile
Today is #WorldHippoDay and these tiny-eared animals need our help. Hippos are sadly on the path to extinction due to habitat loss, drought, poaching and international demand — especially from the United States — for hippo parts like teeth, skulls, ivory, skin and meat. With our allies, the Center has petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect hippos under the Endangered Species Act and these much-needed safeguards can't come soon enough. You can help by urging the USFWS to finalize their protection under the ESA 👉 https://biodiv.us/49A9jxJ
