We’re always given opportunities to stretch dormant muscles. Mine stretches the muscles involved in balancing being a responsible pet owner and an entrepreneur.
I know it’s not the same as birthing and raising human beings. However, let me paint a picture for those who are unaware of how it is to be a responsible pet owner to two handsome #dogs.
It entails making sure that I feed them good food but also making sure they're not underfed and overfed, watch out for allergic reactions, bring them to the vet for regular vaccinations and routine check-ups (to also protect people and other pets around them), bathe and groom them, pick up after their pee and poop, spend quality play time with them so that they're active and they don't become sad, clean, lift, push, and pull their stroller around when going out for errands or taking them to #events with me when there's no trusted sitter (after learning about their separation anxiety), train them to be well behaved (and I get complimented about that everywhere we go)... and so much more.
I nurture as best as I can and cultivate love and guidance as best as I know. I lead a life that gives Fresco & Guts a good shot at a good life. It has NOT been easy and I cry at times when I feel I’m not doing enough. But I wake up each day and do my best.
#Leadership is like that. The people you are responsible for were birthed and raised by others. But you have become responsible for the steps they make in their careers so that they can also have a good fighting shot at a better and brighter life down the road. Even when you don’t know half of what you’re doing, you still do your damn best every day and you do it with kindness because you genuinely want each of your team members to become a better version of themselves every day, too.
We all stretch dormant muscles even when we don’t know it. Those become our #experiences that, later on, turn into new knowledge, skills, and abilities. After thoroughly processing those experiences, then they become #wisdom. Be unafraid to stretch even further that you can today.
