Today we’re highlighting Community Fellow, Kenda L.! If you’re not familiar with RC’s community fellowship program, it’s a leadership development opportunity for Resilient Coders alumni as they serve as a voice for the RC alumni community. All of our fellows have worked as an engineer for over a year, previously volunteered with RC, and have already shown leadership qualities like being an active listener and a human-centric colleague. Learn more about Kenda... Favorite song while coding: Really depends on the mood I’m in. Sometimes Amapiano if I’m upbeat, other times soft R&B if I want to zen out and code. Favorite RC Cohort memory: Coming back to the CIC after events with a platter of food for everyone working late. Advice for a new RC student/someone considering a career change?: Remember that everyone’s journey is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Stay committed to your goals, keep learning, and stay resilient in the face of challenges. Your determination and effort will pay off as you embark on this exciting career change into coding. What are you most excited about as a Community Fellow?: I’m thrilled about the multifaceted nature of this role that allows me to take on various responsibilities. I can’t wait to wear multiple hats and witness the growth and evolution of Resilient Coders in the coming years. As a RC alumni yourself, can you share any personal experiences or insights that have motivated you to be even more dedicated to the community’s success? I firmly believe in the power of manifestation. Envisioning the successful outcome of completing the program as “already mine” was a significant source of motivation for me. How do you plan to engage and connect with the RC community to ensure that their needs and perspectives are at the forefront of the initiatives you’re working on as a CF? One of the primary methods I’m using to actively engage with the RC community is ensuring there are accessible feedback loops. Specifically, I have made both my personal Calendly and the general Community Fellow calendar readily available to our community members. This means that anyone can easily reach out and schedule a meeting with me or other Community Fellows at their convenience. First up, our free learning series, "Building Will for Racial Equity by Using the Racial Justice Runway." Race-based discrimination in America is built on a history that is not often taught and not well understood. Like learning to speak a new language or play a musical instrument, it takes time for those who genuinely want to learn to build up their competency. Despite the urgency we feel to make change now, we need to provide opportunities for our future allies to learn and allow time for their practice to evolve. Join us for four free sessions in June in which you’ll learn how to take people along the “racial justice runway” as you work to build a better future for everyone in your community—and our nation. You’ll come away with a better understanding of how to talk about race to diverse audiences—and move them from reluctance to supporting the solutions that will get us to redress and abundant opportunities for all.  This series will be taught by DrT, with support from the team at TheCaseMade and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Pitcher of coffee, laptop plugged in, cell phone on silent… It’s time for a hackathon! 👇 Hackathons originally come from the software development world, where engineers collaborate for a short and intense period of time as they try to finish a piece of software. Think 48 hours to build an entire program. It’s intense, but it works. Fortunately, you don’t have to be in software development to benefit from the concept. Each month, my team and I will do our own hackathon as we strive to unlock our clients’ funnels. We’ll set ambitious targets and go all in for 24 hours to see how much we can get done. It’s challenging, fun and, most importantly, productive. We end up getting way more done simply because of a made-up time-constraint.
