#WestfieldGoodFestival #WWF Around the world, the illegal wildlife trade is responsible for the slaughter of tens of thousands of animals every year, driving some of the world's most popular species to the brink of extinction. In order to set an example and to raise awareness of biodiversity, Westfield Donau Zentrum welcomed Guido Daniele. The acclaimed artist known for his Handimals exhibition surprised one lucky Shopper and Arwen from “Ilia´s Welt” with a creation of their own. Through his unique approach of painting animals on hands, Guido Daniele aimes to shed light on the importance of animal welfare and wildlife protection. His visit truly was the highlight of this year's Westfield Good Festival at #WestfieldDonauZentrum. Special thanks to WWF, the World Wildlife Fund Austria, which provided visitors with facts and figures about endangered animal species worldwide. #reinventbeingtogether #urwaustria Katalin Szabó Julia Gattringer Andrea Schmalzmeier Florian Krb

#WorldWildlife day is coming up on March 3. Learn more on this topic through #WOAHs seminar and watch out for more on what International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) does at the livestock-wildlife ecosystem interface. #environmentalhealth #climatechange #biodiversity
Let's talk about wildlife! Many of us love exciting safaris in the wild, or a visit to the animal park or zoo. However, the health of wildlife is important - different species of wildlife perform crucial functions in our environment - like keeping our grasslands fertile with their manure, or naturally dispersing seeds of different plants and trees over distances. However, wildlife diseases can "spill over" to human beings and domestic animals, causing epidemics or pandemics. The World Wildlife Day (WWD) is celebrated on March 3rd. WOAH invites you to join WWD webinar on 4th March, to hear more about wildlife data and global surveillance of wildlife diseases.

Over the past six weeks, Wildlife Victoria has recorded a staggering 312% increase in grey-headed flying fox cases when compared to the same period last year. Grey-headed flying foxes are listed as a vulnerable species under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act, but with the increased effects of climate change, ongoing habitat destruction and the loss of food sources they are under increased threat. To lose this species, is to lose one of our most important long-range pollinators. Flying foxes spread seeds and pollinate eucalypt forests across long distances, ensuring genetic diversity and the health of our ecosystems. How you can help: 📱 Call Wildlife Victoria if you see injured or deceased adult flying foxes, as a pup may be nestled under mum’s wings, and if you see pups on their own during the day. Please avoid touching, picking up or moving grey-headed flying foxes. This species requires specialised wildlife training. 🦇 Make a donation to Wildlife Victoria to support our efforts and to ensure our Emergency Response Service remains fully staffed to manage the increased demand for our services.

OSRL, RSPCA & MCA Engagement: Building Tiered Preparedness in UK Wildlife Response 🌊 On Wednesday 21st February, OSRL hosted the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at our Base in Southampton, UK to foster collaboration between the three agencies, understand the role each would play in responding to a large scale oiled wildlife incident, and identify gaps in preparedness. Case studies, a tour of OSRL's Tier 3 wildlife equipment and a tabletop exercise based on a North Sea incident were used to demonstrate the resources required to mount a response to oiled wildlife. The RSPCA and MCA kindly delivered a "Lunch and Learn presentation" to OSRL and the visiting University of Portsmouth on their roles in responding to oiled wildlife and the STOp Notice (Standard Operating Procedure) in development to better outline the role of NGOs in response and the operational considerations that may need to be held in conjunction with the wider response effort. The UK National Contingency Plan (see here: https://lnkd.in/eWkaXChK) recognises the MCA to be responsible for counter pollution and at sea clean-up operations in UK waters and the RSPCA as the lead agency for wildlife response in England. As an OSRL member, the MCA has access to Tier 3 Wildlife Services through the Service Level Agreement. Find out more about our WIldlife Services here: https://lnkd.in/e-nZV6TY All participants left with an increased awareness of the complexity and challenges involved in responding to an oiled wildlife incident. Conversations initiated throughout the day identified multiple areas to improve preparedness such as updating plans, formalising of procedures, procurement of equipment and the need for further training. United for Wildlife x The Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime for #OneHealthDay 🌎 November 3, 2023 marks #OneHealthDay, bringing attention to the need to take a #OneHealth approach to addressing the health threats at the human-animal-environment interface. An approach that addresses a wide range of public health concerns, like environmental health, vector-borne diseases, #zoonotic diseases, and much more. As well as a key driver for biodiversity loss, wildlife trafficking creates unique opportunities for zoonotic outbreak events to occur through interactions with humans and other animals. Human health and the health of animals, plants, and the environment are all linked and interdependent. Fighting the trafficking of wild fauna and flora is not just a battle to preserve our Planet’s precious resources, it is a fight for the health and well being of all of us. Just a storyteller, promoting sustainable travel and ocean advocacy through powerful imagery, what's your story?
Today is an opportunity to highlight the importance of conserving biodiversity and using sustainable practices to protect wildlife and their habitats. World Wildlife Day is celebrated on March 3rd every year and this year it's today! 😍 World Wildlife Day has an important role in raising awareness about the protection of animals in the world. It reminds us of the importance of animals and the importance of treating them with kindness, fairness, and respect. The campaign encourages people to take action against the abuse, exploitation, and abuse of all animals, including wild animals, farmed animals, and livestock. World Animal Day aims to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of all living things on Earth and to promote harmony between humans and animals through action, advocacy, and education. 🌎💙 Which is your favourite animal in this video and why? 🤔🦜🦈 #wwd2024 #connectingpeopleandplanet #digitalinnovation #techforwildlife #planetearth #protectnature #protectwhatyoulove #underwater #worldoceans #wildlife #animals

Stronger laws are desperately needed against animal cruelty. Which means we need many more politicians who value animal lives (& human lives) more than their own greed, power, & desire to control others. In the last few decades, Republican office holders have decimated protections for animals at all levels (domestic, wild, endangered, farm animals) in favor of cronyism & the ability of the “1%” to profit from or seek entertainment from the lives of animals. This has been a very unfortunate, backward trend that is unbecoming of a political party & certainly extremely unhealthy for the planet. Every vote matters - every candidate has a choice to work for the people or to work for his/her self interest. Research, research, research your candidates. Until people stop voting for cruel, selfish politicians, animals will continue being tortured with lighters under their noses, & electric prods while being tightly chained. It can all stop as soon as today with political will.
Is it ever okay to chain and hit tigers? Bachelorette Alum and wildlife conservationist Blake Moynes doesn't think so. He sent a letter on Lady Freethinker’s behalf to officials in Thailand, urging them to ban cruel photo ops with big cats after an LFT investigation revealed tigers, lions and ligers are tightly chained by the neck to concrete slabs, whipped repeatedly, and have lighter flames forced under their nostrils, all so tourists can pose with them. Do you agree with Blake that big cats deserve better? Take action by signing our petition calling for an end to this #BigCatCruelty. https://lnkd.in/e7FPGwvS #animals #animalrights #conservation #ecology #ecofriendly #environmentalist #tigers #bigcats #bigcatsdeservebetter

Consultant with IMO, policy advocacy & advice for the implementation of strategic sustainability initiatives.
I'm excited to work on this excellent project to develop an API-based rule library dataset, trained with AI/ML, that can be applied to search through all available booking detail to detect misdeclared and undeclared #wildlife products in containerized shipments. AI and ML are being used to analyze patterns in shipping data to identify suspicious or #highrisk containers that might be worth further inspection. Maritime trade is highly vulnerable to the #trafficking of illegal goods. In 2022, maritime seizures accounted for over 50% of the cumulative weight of seized #elephantivory, #rhinohorns, and #pangolinscales across all transportation types. Due to the vast volume of trade, the nature of just-in-time shipping, and the global economic need to keep shipping movements free flowing, criminals are able to exploit weaknesses in port controls and global supply chains to move contrabands. WWF-Hong Kong and NCB Hazcheck (Exis Technologies) are teaming up together to work on the POC to develop a screening library. The project is funded with the support of Swire Shipping and WWF Innovation Fund Learn more about: https://lnkd.in/gsHvvEGE https://lnkd.in/gd_Mvcjf #endwildlifecrime #endangeredspecies #CITES #wildlifeprotection
🌍🐾Exciting news! World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and NCB Hazcheck are teaming up to combat the illegal wildlife trade. With the help of our cutting-edge Hazcheck Detect software, we are advancing cargo screening in order to find and prevent shipments of illegal wildlife. In wildlife rehabilitation, we normally focus solely on how such care benefits wildlife and our ecosystems. However, writer Margaret Renkl eloquently describes how wildlife rehabilitation can heal both the animals being cared for and the humans who, with their whole hearts invested, go above and beyond to care for and protect wildlife. "Rehabbers go to extraordinary lengths to save every injured animal. If they can’t save the animal, they can at least give it a merciful death. And they can take the opportunity to explain why it’s so important to walk the yard before mowing, giving wildlife of all kinds a chance to flee. Each animal in rescue represents a human being who has learned something important about living more gently in the world. Rehabilitating the human heart may be the most important work these organizations do." - Margaret Renkl https://lnkd.in/gn2atWWW
