The People, Process, Technology (PPT) model offers insight into the challenges facing the introduction of innovation into current healthcare systems. In short, innovative technology alone is not enough to support the changes needed in healthcare. Also needed is buy-in from stakeholders, including patients, providers, and payers (people), as well as tested methods to help safely introduce and manage the needed change (process). Why is the PPT model so needed in healthcare? It is difficult to implement digital solutions in clinical settings due to various factors. Financial constraints, for instance, can be a significant hurdle, as implementing advanced digital systems requires a substantial initial investment. Healthcare organizations need to allocate resources for the acquisition of technology, staff training, and ongoing maintenance. Interoperability is another major challenge, as different healthcare systems often use disparate electronic health records and data standards, making it difficult to seamlessly share and integrate patient information. This lack of interoperability can lead to inefficiencies and fragmented care. Resistance to change from healthcare providers and staff can also impede the adoption of new digital tools. Physicians and nurses may be hesitant to embrace unfamiliar technologies, fearing disruptions to their workflows and the potential for errors. Introducing innovation and new technology into an industry built on operational standardization to secure patient safety is especially challenging. It's essential to provide comprehensive training and support to address these concerns. Data security concerns are also paramount in clinical settings, given the sensitivity of patient health information. Protecting data from breaches and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations is a constant challenge, and healthcare organizations must invest in robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard patient data. Overcoming these challenges necessitates a strategic and coordinated and forward-thinking approach--exactly that offered by the PPT change model. The returns will come with value-centered offerings. #peopleprocesstechnology #innovation #remotemonitoring #valuebasedcare
