Nature is at the heart of the #COP28 agenda—it's one of the critical levers for addressing the climate crisis. Many businesses are already working to become nature positive, but need to accelerate action to not only curb global warming, but to preserve the natural resources they use. From agriculture to healthcare, business depends on nature. Our latest article explains how corporates can help reverse the decline in biodiversity and get us closer to our climate goals.

Lately, I've been contemplating the series of climate change conferences held in various attractive global locations. While these events are crucial for conversation, I'm struck by the need to weigh these discussions against the resulting tangible actions. I fear there is a trend where industry participation seems more about the prestige and appearance of being at these events, rather than committing to and delivering actual, sustainable changes. This raises an important question: How can we ensure these events are more sustainable themselves and are we really using them as we should for true environmental advancement, or for some is the motivation more about self-indulgence and personal benefits ? #executiveopulence #corporateopportunism #cop28uae

Career transition reflections: Broadly, climate change has been a key topic and an area of concern over the last three decades with a number of initiatives having been rolled out especially in the global south where much of the effects/ impact have been felt. Collectively, we ought to be quite strategic on how we protect, conserve or restore the different ecosystems for impact at scale. We also need to be intentional on how we engage and include communities and beneficiaries (farmers) who depend on and derive their livelihoods from these ecosystems. Dynamics within different geographies and landscapes call for more specific but inclusive approaches so as to achieve Paris agreement targets and specifically UN decade for restoration initiatives with data and science playing a key role. In the current decade, how humans and nature thrive in harmony is no longer a puzzle, but collectively and deliberately we can achieve this.

One of the most (unfairly) unnoticed reports of the past few weeks. Thanks EDF and Ipsos for the annual deep dive into our minds and opinions about climate change: https://lnkd.in/eddUWAFn My take away: on average in the world 10% of people* expect to be forced to move because of the impact of climate change. That is more worrying than any academic study: this is what people on the frontline of climate change think in relation with their own life. * If yo read the footprints, the global numbers are unweighted average across countries (otherwise, the numbers will be heavily influenced by answers from Chinese and Indian people).

Biodiversity is essential for human survival But in Antarctica -and around the world - flora and fauna are threatened by the climate crisis. What happens in Antarctica doesn’t stay in Antarctica. We live in an interconnected world. Melting sea ice means rising seas. And that directly endangers lives and livelihoods in coastal communities across the globe. This week, representatives from nearly 200 countries will come together to coordinate global climate action for the next year - an event referred to as COP28. When it comes to nature conservation, governments, industries and local bodies are doing their part and making strides towards climate action through policies, conservation drives and nature friendly laws. How do you account for climate migration?   I was asked this question 3 weeks ago by the Head of Risk of a CAC40 company after a panel on adaptation I was hosting together with my colleague Mikaël Lemarchand from Groupe SNCF. This is not the first element we actually look at and yet, I was struck by the findings of the 5th edition of the Obs'Cop survey, carried out by Ipsos for EDF, which each year takes an international look at opinions, knowledge and levels of commitment to climate change. For the first time, the subject of #ClimateMigration is included. On a global scale, 1️⃣ in 🔟 people believe that they will certainly have to change their place of residence within the next 🔟 years because of global warming. If we add the 24% who consider this to be "likely", this means that more than 1/3 of the world's population believe that they could be forced to change where they live for climate-related reasons.   The study reveals a strong concern, largely in Northern countries, about the influx 🔙of climate migrants in the years to come. Most of the countries surveyed are ⛔️ to accept refugees, and it is the countries already affected by the effects of climate change (Brazil, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and India) that are the most welcoming. In Europe, 🇮🇹 is the most open, alongside 🇩🇪.   These results illustrate the systemic dimension of climate change and its social and political consequences, even though a third of the population is still relativising or even denying the phenomenon.   Every year, it's always with a certain amount of trepidation that I discover the results of Obs'Cop (4 years of growing climate scepticism! stabilisation this year). But this observatory has now established itself as a valuable tool for fuelling debate and guiding decision-making.
