Why are we talking about "Disaster Risk Reduction" rather than just "Risk Reduction" that is inclusive of our whole environments? If you only focus on the "Disaster" aspect you overlook 90% of the risk that affects communities, and when a significant event occurs, because one has only looked at the "Disaster" aspect - at mentally at least, communities quickly become overwhelmed with the immediate (emergency) that rapidly transitions into a more significant "disaster". Broader "risk reduction" interwoven with emergent mitigation strategies is a more inclusive language that the Disaster Management Continuum should be focussed on.

We extend our gratitude to all our friends and supporters who have showered us with encouragement and good wishes on this special day. While we celebrate, we also stand in solidarity with those affected by conflicts in regions like Gaza and Ukraine. The grim reality is that the ravages of war often disregard the rules of engagement, endangering innocent lives. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/dr-charles-chidi-paradise-a88463103_happyanniversary-anniversary-peace-activity-7217241441096372225-0CSq?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android

I tell everyone that this is the best and most comprehensive source of information on climate adaptation/hazard mitigation in existence! You will notice that I did not say disaster because I do pay attention to what United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) says!

Very interesting — African Risk Capacity (ARC). I'm curious to learn more about this "comprehensive monitoring" and how satellite data is used to set these "predefined triggers", such as low rainfall levels providing early warning of an impending drought.
