Today, 12 July, is International Day of Combatting Sand and Dust Storms. 🌪️ Every year, sandstorms throw 2 billion tonnes of dust into the air, much of it from deserts. Human activity and the #ClimateCrisis is creating more dust – from agriculture and land degradation – and more extreme weather. Windborne dust nourishes ocean life and coral reefs but excessive volumes can cause harmful algal blooms and can damage coral health.
