While I don't believe that humans have caused significant climate change over the past 200 years, there is no denying that human activities have had an impact on the environment. For example, the dust bowl and the destruction of the rain forests. More recently, the Maui wildfire was fueled by an overgrowth of invasive grass species, which were introduced to feed the cattle. There is still room for research to understand mangrove ecology and to formulate an effective way of mangrove restoration.

This graphic depicts several aspects of mangroves including its economic value. However, the information provided concerning the relationships of carbon sinks were astounding. I would like to see a graphic specifically dedicated to that aspect. But as an overview of mangroves, it's a great graphic with a wide variety of information.

The #coastal #ecosystems of #mangroves, #tidal marshes, and #seagrass meadows provide numerous benefits and services that are essential for climate change adaptation along coasts globally, including protection from #storms and #sea level rise, prevention of #shoreline #erosion, regulation of coastal #water quality, provision of #habitat for commercially important fisheries and #endangered marine #species, and #food security for many coastal #communities. Additionally, these ecosystems sequester and store significant amounts of coastal #blue #carbon from the #atmosphere and #ocean and hence are now recognized for their role in mitigating #climate change.

Nature based solutions share the goal of restoring ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity, and mitigating climate change, much like planting mangroves. What is your favorite nature based solution and why?

#mangroves Super important landscape for coastal areas. Adding land to sinking areas. And making water cycles healthy again. Do we need planting? No! It goes much faster if we trap sediments behind bamboo walls and let dormant seeds in the soil germinate. Wetlands International has pretty impactful projects in Indonesia and the rest of Asia. Combining it with eco fish farming, vegan kroepoek and more. We let nature do the work and just harvest and produce food, feed, and fibers. Abundant materials. Abundant regional economies. Economies of scope. Interconnecting SMEs. The term is nature-based solutions. We don't have to love nature. We just have to allow her to be abundant and regenerative.
