Climate Adaptation is especially critical for food security in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). This is something we must weave into our policies and practices here in Jamaica, as we take steps to recover from the effects of Hurricane Beryl.

Here are some ways seaweed 'kelp' our ocean in the #blueeconomy: 🌿 provides habitat for fisheries and other marine life 🌿 absorbs carbon & reduces ocean acidification 🌿 contributes to sustainable aquatic food production 🌿 and removes excess nutrients from runoff! This week, climate change is one of the topics being examined at the 10th World Water Forum. One of the event’s subthemes is water security and prosperity. Speakers from around the world are discussing topics like regenerative agriculture, food estate and drought resilient crops. At CWN, we’re looking at climate impacts in Canada through our water and climate program area. One of the projects we have underway is currently assessing the impacts of climate change on the agriculture sector in the Canadian Prairies. Through this project, we’re looking to raise awareness among decision-makers in the agricultural sector about how climate impacts agricultural production and water availability. Lake Victoria's fisheries are vital for the livelihoods of communities in Kenya's Lake Victoria Zone Region, providing food, nutrition, and income. Climate change has led to ecological disturbances, affecting fish stocks, infrastructure, and livelihoods. Recommendations from researchers, government agencies and development actors highlight the need for improved governance, technology, financing, education, and health considerations to address the impacts of climate change on the fisheries industry. Multi-stakeholder partnerships are deemed essential for effective collective action in bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice in tackling climate change in the region.
