In our third grassroot community Dialogue at A Million Hugs in partnership with International Solidarity Foundation sensitizing the community on Gender Based Violence and one of the attendees Made a really strong statement: "We as women have failed our Children by staying in bad marriages with irresponsible men. We are expose our children to violence to what end?" Many women around the world are currently trapped in abusive marriages, where they face violence on a daily basis. However, thanks to awareness campaigns like the one we conduct, more and more women in grassroots communities are recognizing that their fundamental rights are being infringed upon. As a result, they are beginning to take steps towards their own emancipation. This progress is crucial in empowering women and ensuring their safety and well-being. #endGBV #CommunityDialogues #StopViolence

Today is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people who, despite making up less than 5% of our country’s population, are more frequently targets of violence than any other group. According to Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses (OAITH) monthly femicide report, three of the four confirmed femicide victims in August 2023 were identified as Indigenous, and a study released by Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada confirms that homicides of Indigenous women and girls resulted in charges of manslaughter instead of murder more often than when the victims were non-Indigenous women or girls. Today, as we collectively raise our voices in a call for remembrance, solidarity, and proactive measures to prevent further violence against Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals, we demand affirmative action in ensuring justice for those who have gone missing or been murdered. #sistersinspirit #NationalDayofActionforMissingandMurderedIndigenousWomenandGirls
On #SistersInSpirit Day, we acknowledge the growing number of missing and murdered #Indigenous women, girls and #2SLGBTQI+ people in Canada, and the strength of their families and communities who continue to grieve and advocate for change. #MMIWG2S #EndHumanTrafficking

Our final report on adequate housing for Indigenous Two-Spirit, transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people is available now. This report aims to illuminate perspectives on housing rights, needs, and solutions shared by Indigenous 2STNBGD people. We’re advocating for a more active commitment from government, housing service providers, and housing advocates to support Indigenous-led initiatives that centre Indigenous 2STNBGD people. Upon noticing the absence of representation for #widows at the “Invest In Women” financial conference, I reached out to the organizers via email to highlight the importance of including this perspective. I am grateful for the opportunity to speak at the conference and advocate for the needs of widows. As we embark on the significant journey of #16DaysOfActivism, let's not just observe but actively participate in rewriting the narrative. It's a call to arms against gender-based violence—a rallying cry for justice, equality, and the unequivocal right to be heard. In these 16 days, let's stand shoulder to shoulder, amplifying voices often silenced. Together, we wield the power of awareness, sparking conversations that transcend borders and cultures. It's more than a campaign; it's a collective effort to build a world where every individual, irrespective of gender, feels safe, respected, and valued. The battle against gender-based violence is not a sprint but a marathon, demanding sustained commitment and action. Through our shared determination, let's not only observe but actively contribute to dismantling the structures that perpetuate inequality. Join me in this impactful journey—let's turn awareness into advocacy, and advocacy into action. #PeterMehlape #EndGBV #ActivismForChange #TogetherWeRise

Humanitarian. Lead for Protection, Gender and Inclusion (a.i) at IFRC - the world’s largest, local, humanitarian network.
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of violence against women. Let that sink in. We’re still having to address the fact that women and girls face deathly violence at the hands of their family, partners or community members just for being women and girls - for preceptions that they aren’t doing what others what them to. But it is preventable and actions to promote gender and social equality are the solution. Funding needs to be allocated by communities, governments and also humanitarians to this issue. And each year, from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day), campaigners around the world participate in the 16 Days of Activism, a global campaign against gender-based violence. This #16Days I encourage to follow the work of the Red Cross or Red Cresenct - community-based in each of the 191 places they are present - to fight for equality. This includes fun runs, soup kitchens, education sessions, health programmes and also wearing orange! For the IFRC teams everyone, I encourage you to wear Orange to work on Friday 30th November. Peace out. And peace everywhere. May
