Hi everyone it's Day 7 of our #15DaysOfContentChallenge in HerTechTrail and our prompt for the day is:👇 Day 7 PROMPT- Talk about how principles of design thinking can drive product development at WeWe. How would you incorporate design thinking methodologies into your approach? 📌DESIGN THINKING: as the name implies, Design Thinking is an iterative strategic and practical process used by Product Designers which relies on observing meticulously how the users interact with their product in order to identify problems to be solved, think differently and understand their users so that they can challenge assumptions, redefine problems and identify alternative solutions and then generate prototypes and tests. 📌DESIGN THINKING METHODOLOGIES: there are five(5) main stages of design thinking and they are: 📍EMPATHY(Researching Your Users' Needs): this is the first stage of the design thinking proces and it's main aim is to develop the best possible understanding of your users, their needs and the problems that underlie the development of the product or service you want to create as it allows design thinkers to set aside their own assumptions about the product and focus on user-centric research in order to gain a deeper understanding of real users and their needs. The methods and tools to carry out this stage include; User Interviews, Empathy Maps, Color Psychology, Observation, Surveys and Questionnaires. 📍Define (Stating Users' Needs & Problems): this stage entails analyzing your observation from the empathy stage in order to define the problem and problem statement from the perception of the users’ needs. Doing this will help the design team collect great ideas to establish features, functions and other elements to solve the problem. Tools commonly used in this stage include Data Analysis, The “5 Whys” Method and User Personas. 📍IDEATION (Ideas Creation): this stage is where designers start to explore design solutions as they've grown to understand your users and their needs in the Empathize stage, and analyzed observations in the Define stage to create a user centric problem statement. Ideas in this stage will ultimately become prototypes that can be tested with the target audience. Common Ideation Techniques include Mind Maps & Flow Charts, Round-Robin Brainstorming, SWOT Analysis, Brainwriting, Sketches. Are you enjoying our content challenge and feel you should be part of it? 📍PROTOTYPING (Solution Creation): this is an experimental stage where the designers produce inexpensive version of the product based on the solutions ideated as they are meant to convey a possible solution, not deliver it. These prototypes can be shared and tested within the team itself, in other departments or on a small group of people outside the design team in which the products are investigated and then accepted, improved or rejected based on the users’ experiences and this will help the designers to know how the users would behave, think and feel when they interact with the end product. Examples of prototypes include sketches, models and some common tools for prototyping are Wireframes, Low-Fidelity Prototypes, High-Fidelity Prototypes.

📍TESTING(Trying The Solutions): This is the final stage of the five-stage model although in an Agile setting, iteration to the previous stages is inevitable. The testing phase of the design thinking process involves real users and real user feedback. During this phase, prototypes are given to participants to try out and design teams observe how participants interact with the prototype and gather feedback about the experience. "Depending on user feedback, changes to the product might be required. These changes might require the design team to restart the testing phase or revisit past stages. Feedback from user testing might also inspire new potential solutions or actionable insights". Some testing tools are Beta Launch&Usability Testing.

📌DESIGN THINKING INCORPORATION: the Design Thinking Process is quite similar to Agile methodology hence it is not going to be strange to me. As a PM, I would ensure that the design team follows all the design thinking methodologies and I will play my part by conducting User Research, generating User Personas, defining Users Pain points, ensuring that the Prototype and Testing would solve the users problems before taking the product to the market.
