But there is an alternative to terminating the foundation: it can be converted into a public charity. The idea of a staged timetable up to the end of 2023 is to give charities time to digest the changes and prepare for any that might affect them. In the 10th edition of the Australian Charities Report, released today by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, the Commissioner reminds readers in her Foreword: "The differences between the smallest and largest charities could not be starker. When we talk about charities, set obligations or when policy is made, we must be mindful of the difference in resources and capacity. Charities are bracing themselves for a massive funding cut of £1 billion. This is a stark reminder of the vital role that charities play in our communities. They often step in where public services fall short, making a tangible impact on people's lives. However, the financial strain they are under threatens their ability to continue essential work. While charities' need for support is greater than ever, our recent 'Corporate Giving by the FTSE 100' report highlighted that the value of charitable giving has dropped by 26% in the last decade, despite a 179% increase in profits.
