To create the social change they are seeking, foundations are employing an array of approaches. While these approaches have varying names across the foundation sector, we have codified nine frequently mentioned approaches and their relationship with foundations’ impact goals. Foundations typically implement a different set of approaches in each program area, depending on that program area’s goals and context, and considering what approaches other funders and actors working on the same issues are (or are not) using. These approaches are mutually reinforcing and are often bundled, especially in a place-based context. Diverse voices and people with lived experience meaningfully participating in the development of solutions, ideas and plans for the future. This is the philanthropy we want to see in the world. We had a wonderful session today at Porticus on how to improve our Meaningful Participation practices and processes and we want to bring other organizations along in this discussion. How can we collaborate together to build an inclusive and participatory philanthropy?
An Introduction: Making Participation Meaningful at Porticus We want meaningful participation to be at the centre of our philanthropic practice. We define meaningful participation as a collaborative process between funders, grantees and people with lived experience who share decision-making power and mutual accountability to ensure positive change. We recognise that all persons involved have equally valuable contributions to bring to the table. Participation is not only a means to an end, it is also the end in itself. We see it as a moral obligation, and we’ve created a set of principles to guide us on the journey. We invite you to join us over the next few weeks as we share our commitment through 5 animations created by Pavel Pazukhin that inform and inspire Porticus’ participation work every day. Join the discussion and share your own experiences in the comments.

Interesting to see when new dimensions are being added to "old" and traditional topics like philinathropy, offering new opportunites. How are digital assets being used in philanthropic giving – and what are the risks involved? Though still in their early stages, some trends are identifiable on a global scale. The big question remains: are digital assets in the philanthropic context going to be a blessing or a curse? ➡️ Explore expert insights from Julius Baer’s Head of Philanthropy, Caroline Piraud, and University of Basel’s Professor Georg von Schnurbein: https://ow.ly/Sih130syRAt #Philanthropy #DigitalAssets #CEPS
